Imagine being Laura Bush and turning on the television and watching the absolute deluge of sticky-sweet syrup being poured all over Michelle Obama during her European debut as first lady. It is as if every TV reporter was handed a pamphlet of talking points and ordered to compare Mrs. Obama to Jackie Kennedy. NBC's Dawna Friesen gushed: "Though Harvard-educated Michelle Obama has substance, not just style, and that's what sets her apart."
Apart from whom? Unspoken, but unmistakeable, NBC's saying Michelle has more substance than Laura and more style than Hillary. Everyone expects the press to be polite and gentle with the First Lady, but this is ridiculous. The official "news" media line now is that Michelle is the most smashing and fashionable and intelligent first lady in recent history, maybe ever.
Friesen's embarrassing report set the tone early; it began with five seconds of the Frankie Valli song "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You," as in "You're just too good to be true." That would describe the press, in love and going way beyond the truth. Apparently, Michelle's just like heaven to touch. The media want to hold her so much.

Michelle Obama is at most a later rendition of Maxine Waters - particularly in the attitude department.
Its a PR move by Obamas people. I guess Michelle is flattered by all the attention and allows it. As for Laura Bush she was raised to be a lady and acts like one.
As she attends more and more fancy high-calorie state dinners and luncheons, her butt will get bigger and bigger. Not being a racist, but it’s in her DNA...
The Houston Comical has a awesomely barfy editorial this morning on the perfectly wondrous Michelle: “She rocked the Old World with her 21st-century style and self-confidence....” Don’t read it unless you have a very strong stomach! What a bunch of hypocrites! Michelle broke the mold when she touched the queen, you know. But if it had been Laura Bush....

They have to focus on Michelle’s glamor in order to balance out the dishwater dreary accounts of what transpired with the Zero himself.
She’s a Wookie. Hulking and ungainly. Her now concealed hatred for America has only gone underground. DBM is making her a symbol and beacon, so for the rest of her life she’ll be listened to and her true character will permeate our culture. Every little girl will want to be like her. She’ll write books and give speeches. She’ll be an authority on everything. She’ll possibly even follow Hillary into the Senate, or be a Secretary of State. The sky is the limit, especially when you have the thruster rocket of the media strapped to your back. Sad. Scary.
Note the comments at the bottom.
Her clothes are trash. Her voice is worse. Her demeanor and carriage are slumpy.
* Oh, of course, her arms.....
She’s just awful.
I don’t know about writing her thesis at Princeton was was badly written and incomphensible at best.
“Michelle Obama is at most a later rendition of Maxine Waters - particularly in the attitude department.”
I was thinking more of a Cynthia McKinney with her hair did.
I thought that very thing the other day when I heard someone refer to Michelle Obama as "the First Lady we've been waiting for."
WTF?
Laura Bush was a lady; she was graceful and real. And as much as I disagreed with Bush’s policies..he was, at least, Presidential.
Yup, nice lady.
This is going to backfire on Michelle because she cannot live up to this hype. She is nothing like they are describing her and people can see it and hear it with their own eyes.
She is not a star. She doesn’t have ‘star’ qualities. She’s just an average ordinary woman and would be better served if the press would let her find her way into a role she makes for herself as first lady. But the media is going to keep forcing her into the role of ‘beautiful’, ‘charismatic’, ‘charming’, ‘fashion trend setter’ ... and she is not any of those things.
I actually feel sorry for her because she cannot live up to this personna as beauty queen, red carpet, talk-show-host, star. She doesn’t have ‘it’ - whatever ‘it’ is. She is not Rachael Ray, Princess Di, Jackie O, Oprah Winfrey, or even Dr. Phil. She’s just plain old Michelle ... a woman who finds herself in the overflow spotlight shining on her husband.
No matter how much the press wishes to compare Michelle to Jackie Kennedy, it’s like comparing a steak to chopped liver.
I didnt like jackie Kennedy, I thought she was a phony from the word go, but she did know how to dress and had some class.Michelle spends most of her day stretching her upper lip so it will fit over all those teeth.
Laura Bush has class.
Jackie Kennedy had class.
Michelle Obama doesn't have class.
Michelle was so important in her $300,000 earmark job they didn't replace her after she left.
