> it must suck to hafta patrol unarmed, never knowing if youre gonna meet a real hardcore bg and be screwed by the queen...

Actually patrolling unarmed and meeting hardcore Bad Guys is great fun: separates the men from the boys.

> youre pretty conservative until the topic get around to our 2A, then you seem to get yer panties in a bunch about freedom...

Your Second Amendment certainly doesn’t provide for non-deputized yahoos arming themselves, forming vigilance committees and hooning around at night in cars looking for bad guys to arrest. As these lads are likely to find out the first time they try it.

If I had to guess, this will end in tears with SWAT getting involved, and for once SWAT will be doing their job properly.

I doubt that your constitution sanctions non-deputized vigilance committees cruising the streets at night armed, taking the law into their own hands.

Why yes MY constitution does sanction citizens taking the law into their own hands, "The People" make the law AND they also enforce it, either by themselves or their "agents", AKA: LEO

As for the stack of case law against your so-called "non-deputized vigilance committees", there is an equal stack showing that the citizens have a right to protect and defend themselves and/or property, up to and including citizens arrest and/or deadly force.

Chapter and verse, please.

I guess time and the Courts will tell.

Are you an American living in New Zealand? Or are you just an expert on US Constitutional law?

Maybe we could get some really great masks like the BALDKNOBBERS!

I got to Lackland in April 1963. We had pith helmets and PT shorts. We didn't have Bermuda shorts or knee socks.

I had to look up the “Baldknobbers”. Like many groups, they started with good intentions. They were formed to fight crime and corruption. The “law” protected the criminals.

I have never desired to wear a mask. I am who I am. I am not some “Teen age mutant ninja turtle” like our Swat members seem to be. If push comes to shove, I will be there with my face shining. ;0)

"said the militia will conform to state law, perhaps by having members seek permits to carry concealed handguns."

In Kalifornia?? Good luck getting a conceal carry in Kalifornia. Probably is not going to happen. I would say that the only place where this guy is screwing up is attempting to charge the city for their services. Almost sounds like something from a Sopranos episode. We'll protect you, but you have to pay us for our protection. No, these militias should be volunteer only and only patrol their neighborhoods. If other neighborhoods see that you're doing good, then help them organize their own militia to patrol.

And plant drugs and guns on innocent people! Don’t forget that vital law enforcement skill!

I won't be convinced that they're fully qualified until one of them shoots himself in the leg.

There isn’t much crime in my part of the country for some reason or the other. ;0)

Ditto for my Oregon coast county, where one in eight are licensed to carry. Lots of transplanted Arkansans.

Wouldn't it be quicker and cheaper to just pick out one of the Mexican drug cartels operating in Stockton and just hire them to do it. After all they already have the trained and armed personnel to do the job. Plus they already know who the bad guys are and they would be far more efficient because they would simply bypass the corrupt court system.

I doubt there are more than 10% of the people in my county that carry have a license. That tends to keep the rabble hunkered down.

I think you would be wise to take that back.

The latest from Stockton is the following: The City received a report in 2006 that stated Stockton should have 551 police officers. The latest count is 408 and we are one of the highest crime cities per capita in California. The city let the major developers dictate for years what was needed etc. but not any additional Police protection. Now the city is claiming there is no money to pay police and when the new year starts July 1, anywhere from 43 to 51 officers will be let go. Alan Pettet is forming a militia to protect the citizens of the city if the layoffs take place on July 1, 2009. The latest count for recruitment stands at 268 citizens that are willing to take up arms to protect this city. Recently the Mayor Ann Johnston who was elected last November requested additional Police Patrols around her business the Balloonery a party and Balloon store. Does that not seem ironic the Buffoon that owns the Balloonery is requesting additional police patrols. Yet we can’t come up with the additional money to keep the police officers we have. I understand that Alan Pettet is next going to start a recall petition against the mayor and vice mayor.
