Please. Twenty-five years ago I knew a person who got questioned for carrying a “large” amount of cash at the airport. Those were the rules then as now.

If you enter the US from overseas ICE officers are permitted to ask you anything they want and you are obligated to answer. Otherwise, no one in an airport has the right to question you about anything that doesn’t pose a threat to air safety. It was illegal 25 years ago as it is today.
