My father participated in D-Day also. He flew bombing missions over Normandy Beach. IIRC, 75% of these men lost their lives (daytime missions as opposed to night like the British, etc). If being reported accurately, this is just so sad and disappointing on so many levels.

For comparison purposes, I had a very interesting conversation some time ago, with Sen. George McGovern (as everyone knows, a Democrat) regarding his memories of WW-II - he talked about a good friend that he lost and still thought about 50+ years later like it was still YESTERDAY. It was extremely touching and totally sincere. Sen. McGovern really is a great American.(I "classify" myself as a conservative , Repub, btw)

I do thank your father for his service to our country. Seeing any film footage of Normandy is just horrendous. So many lives lost. So many brave souls. Obama SHOULD have visited Normandy out of respect. As an American President...this was a disgraceful act. Not a misstep...a disgraceful act. Shame on him. God rest the sould of your dad and those who fought alongside him.
