PROVIDENCE, R.I. Former Sen. Lincoln Chafee created a committee on Monday to explore a run for governor next year as an independent candidate after leaving the Republican Party, his first formal move to enter the race.

“As of now, we have no Republican candidate for Governor.”
We don’t? I thought Joe Trillo was in?
To Hell with that little faggot.
Maybe there will be one now.
Well, it’s a little early to announce just yet. I heard Steve Laffey was interested.
RINOs are slow learners.
What about Buddy?
What’s it take, a white ash stake through the heart? Politically speaking, I mean.
I read when Chafee got in, any potential major GOP candidates withdrew. Trillo’s name was mentioned on one website (Politico), but elsewhere, his name isn’t listed, nor are any Republicans listed. I heard that Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian was one possible candidate, but still no movement (but I’ve read he’s a RINO and since he hails from Chafee’s hometown, he might very well endorse the Missing Linc). Gov. Carcieri, whom I have respect for as a fairly Conservative Republican, is going to have a black eye if he can’t recruit a credible candidate to succeed him. Perhaps getting someone from the private sector with money to spare (like he was) is a potential solution.
There is nothing wrong with professional politicians as long as they are kept on a very short leash.
So are many voters.
GOOD! get these RinoSaures out of the GOP. Would that all of the Leftest So called Republicans leave the Party and go Democrat or Communist —at least they would be honest with their political points of view.
Nope, Laffey has moved on.. A few weeks ago he let it be known that he will not be running for Governor. It appears he wasn’t kidding either, Laffey has apparently sold his home in Cranston and moved out of state for the time being. It’s too bad he’s really the only hope the Republicans had for holding the Governor’s seat.
That was a disgrace that he lost to Chafee in the primary.
Really makes you sick, doesn’t it ?
“Perhaps getting someone from the private sector” ... That’s the problem, there’s no private sector left in RI. I really won’t hold it against him if he can’t pull somebody in to run 2010, this state is really circling the bowl.. I live in Warwick, I doubt Avedesian would run but I also doubt very much that he would back Chafee if there is a Republican in the race. In my opinion Avedesian is a RINO and that’s one of the reasons I’d prefer he doesn’t run, I don’t consider him to be a fiscal conservative and he’s also openly gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Honestly, if it came down to it I would vote Dem in a three way race just to make sure Chafee bites it.. I can’t think of too many people I have less respect for than Linc he truly is bottom shelf all the way.
It was.. Laffey is the only politician I have ever donated my time to. You can blame our open primaries for Chafee’s victory, the unions had an axe to grind with Laffey and they crossed over big time to take him out.. Chafee and his wife also begged limp wristed, like minded Democrat’s to cross over and they complied as well.
Maybe we can get Buddy Cianci to run as a Republican again ? But seriously, about the only other name I can think of is Ron Machtley. Remember he was considered the odds-on likely nominee back in ‘94 when Lincoln Almond beat him in an upset (and, of course, had he stayed in Congress, that little pissant Paddy Kennedy wouldn’t have replaced him). He was President of that college (Bryant) last I checked.
Of course, there’s those other Republicans that served in statewide office in the ‘80s and ‘90s that all seemed to drop off the radar screen. Bernie Jackvony, Almond’s appointee to Lt Governor (though he couldn’t win a general). Susan Farmer and Barbara Leonard (both Secretaries of State). Former AGs Arlene Violet (though I think she left the GOP), and Jeffrey Pine (who was once well regarded). Nancy Meyer being the last one, the former Treasurer.
He should run. Out of the Country and keep on going .
NO MORE SENATORS FOR POTUS.
