Yep.. it had absolutely nothing to do with his moderate to liberal positions on several issues, nor did it have to do with his coming across as the typical slick politician, nor did it have to do with his inability to connect with the voters.. nope, it was his religion.. /sarc

The M-word Romney had problems with wasn't Mormon. It was Massachusetts. To become governor in that very liberal state, he had to do a lot of things and take sides on issues that spoiled his image. He either lied to become governor, was lying when he was running for the presidential nomination or had a true conversion in his politics. Lying politicians are a lot more common than true conversions, so I assumed the worst - he was a Massachusetts politician running as a conservative. I was willing to hold my nose when it got towards the end, but then he soon dropped out.

He might be in the White House if he had been the governor of a southern, midwestern or western state and had run and governed as a conservative.

I don’t think so.

My preferences were Hunter, then Thompson after he withdrew, and then Romney once Thompson fell by the wayside.

Faced with McCain, absent any real conservative alternative, I thought Romney was the better choice, but he withdrew when in my opinion he ought to have stood and fought, he still had a chance to overcome McCain. His withdrawal told me he didn’t have the stomach for a fight. Nor did Thompson, sadly.

He was preferable to McQueeg. His religion did not help him, that’s for sure.

Did Romney's religion cost him the presidency?

YES!!

If he was a good a MORMON as he SHOULD have been (after ALL the positions held in church management) he should NEVER have been so weak on abortion!

No one wants a 'president' that claims to 'beliewe' and then shows so little evidence of it.
