DOVER, Del. The Air Force says the media will be allowed to cover the arrival Sunday of an airman killed overseas, the first such opportunity since the Obama administration overturned an 18-year-old ban on news coverage of returning war dead.
The Air Force says the remains of Staff Sgt. Phillip Myers are expected to be transferred at Dover Air Force Base at 10 p.m. Chicago time on Sunday.
The new policy announced in February gives families a choice of whether to admit the news media to ceremonies at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, the entry point to the United States for the caskets of overseas war dead. Critics of the previous policy had said the government was trying to hide the human cost of war.
Ping
when is my End of Active Service again?
The media isn’t banned from memorial services, funerals or kept out the cemeteries during inernment, so just how are they hiding the cost of war?
Out of respect I will avoid viewing any material related to this. I hope that all others will also.
Obviously the family does not mind. The policy is the family needs to decide. I doubt that I would chose that route, but this family must think it will help somehow with their grief.

Will the media question Obama’s broken promise to get out of Iraq in 90 days?
Unlike the human cost of abortion they try to hide. Hypocrites.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
Will they want to cover now that Obama is CIC?
Let’s start re-running September 11, 2001 news casts.
Watch, Obama will make an exception for our (few, I pray) Afghan war dead.
Fact 1: it’s Obama’s war.
Fact 2: He doesn’t want to be stained with failure.
Fact 3: He’s doing this to win liberal praise.
Fact 4: this will embolden the left solidly against the war more than they do now.
Fact 5: Obama doesn’t like being questioned, protested or made to look ackward.
Eventually - something is going to give.
the dems know that there will be at least 10% of the families willing to allow the remains of their ‘loved’ ones to be used as political pawns
that’s all they need.
here’s a thought. if this is allowed, and since anything discarded into the trash is considered public property... how about putting up pics of (this is gross, sorry) aborted fetuses alongside a birth/death certificate? maybe with the words “the choice was made” or “who are the real baby killers?”
There's an old saying, that "the story is over when the media starts turning the cameras on themselves."
Not sure how it applied here, but I can't shake it from my fore-brain, tonight.
Execrable.
Yes, I heard one such “mother” on the local 24-hr news station this morning. Where was her concern for the feelings of most families? Callous jerks.
