BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Even if police officers had immediately entered the immigrant center where a gunman had just shot down 13 people, the victims' injuries were so severe that none would have survived, a county prosecutor said Sunday.

The shooting at the American Civic Association stopped shortly after the first 911 calls came in at 10:30 a.m. Friday, but police didn't enter the building until nearly 45 minutes later.

Survivors reported huddling for hours in a basement, not knowing whether they were still in danger

When seconds count, the police are hours away.

You know what I don’t like? It’s the backslapping news conferences where they introduce all the agencies, officials and politicians and go on and on ad nauseum about their great responses and how the community pulled together.

But they didn't know that at the time.

The police need to strap on the body armor head to toe and move. It seems that most times they show up and wait to go in.

Because they don’t want to get shot.

When I listen to Rush, Glenn, & Sean, it seems that all calls from Binghampton
are libs calling to bash or argue. I have never nor will never go to
Binghamton, just because of the phone calls to the radio shows I listen to.

I have a very bad opinion and attitude towards any and all things Binghamton.

What do you expect from a job that requires no formal education, a six figure salary, and full retirement benefits after 20 years?

that is the lamest, most reprehensible, irresponsible thing I have ever heard any jackass say, especially for publication.

Exactly what f***ng lawyer would come up with.

No kidding, but they out number the gunman and have strategies to move in, no different than the military. VT is a good example. Hurry to the scene and wait while the gunman keeps shooting people. The police need to be more aggressive IMO, within reason.

Right, a pregnant woman could be bleeding just inside the door and the cowards won’t go in. Cops are just out for a pension in my opinion. YMMV

Exactly - and that puts a lot of pressure for the autopsy to reveal no lingering deaths

That is the post Columbine Response, Officers will surround the place until the shooting is finished then bring a mop and have the ambulances at the ready.

That does bother me, then again the 3 officers in PA didn’t wait and they were murdered.

Then again, the third officer was shot trying to save the two already shot officers, the Binhamton vicitms received no such effort.

The very same thing happened with the Columbine incident. The police have all these SWAT teams with "urban assault" vehicles, automatic weapons, tactical gear, bulletproof vests with trauma plates, and they still get to a massacre scene and debate whether the Yankees will have a strong pitching staff this year (I'm making a rhetorical point, of course).

I'm no expert on this, but they clearly are not training for these situations, or if they are they're failing in dealing with them (a worse scenario, IMHO). Hopefully this situation, and the Columbine shooting, will give them some impetus to develop training scenarios for these kinds of incidents. If not, more civilians will die.

I suspect that when the bad guys figure out that the cops don't know how to respond, or are slow, they'll start to go after them as well. That will drive them to figure out how to deal with it once and for all.

People survive pistol shots all the time, with medical care.

They’re already wearing the armor. Never know when a stray bullet from inside and hit you when you’re hiding behind a tree.

I highly doubt they made a six figure salary.

You are always so negative.

Guess you could have done better.

I’ve always felt that the role of the police was to count the bodies and to write the reports. Sort of like the CDC, which sends out dire warnings about diseases but never seem to prevent any.
