Decriminalize marijuana and let people grow a limit of plants, that’s it. No taxes, no regulation and keep it illegal to sell, transport or distribute it or drive under the influence. Problem solved...
That would be sensible. But you can’t stop the trafficking in a scenario like that. You just can’t.
When I was growing up, drug dealing, in my peer group, was a gentleman’s game. It was all very casual. We knew there was violence and smuggling some where along the line, but we never saw any of that. Get involved with blacks dealing dope though, and the knives and guns came out immediately.
That's regulation.
People need to come to grips with this irrational fear of marijuana. Legalizing it will not turn us into a nation of twinkie-eating slackers. I hate twinkies. Cigarettes are freely available and many, many people do not smoke. Alcohol is freely available and many, many people do not drink. Legal or not, drugs are freely available and most people do not partake. Legalization would not change that.
