'This Week' : Susan Rice

UN Ambassador Susan Rice on "This Week..."

April 5, 2009

<*snip*

RICE: ...(W)e have 15 members of the Security Council and -- including the permanent five, so we all need to come together around this. But the United States' view is..., it's a violation, and it merits and appropriately strong United Nations response. We'll be… STEPHANOPOULOS: You mentioned...

RICE: ...working for that.

STEPHANOPOULOS: *snip* China has made it pretty clear they don't want any sanctions. And because of that, your predecessor, John Bolton, says that any kind of U.N. resolution is going to be close to meaningless.

JOHN BOLTON, FORMER U.S. AMBASSADOR TO U.N.: I think the real pressure has to be applied on China, which gives North Korea 80 to 90 percent of its energy and a substantial amount of its food and other humanitarian needs.

China has got the capability to stop this nuclear program, we've just never applied adequate pressure to them.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Is the United States prepared to pressure China?

RICE: We're working very closely with China. China shares the same goal that we do, which is a de-nuclearized Korean Peninsula. China also is very proximate, on the border with North Korea, and shares our desire not to see this situation escalate, and to ensure that we can achieve, George, the long-term goal, which is de- nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through the six-party talk process.

STEPHANOPOULOS: But because China is right on the border of North Korea, they've been reluctant to really pressure North Korea. They're afraid that if you turn the screws too hard on North Korea, the regime is going to collapse and there's going to be chaos.

Anyone who thinks the United Nations can have any sway over North Korea has already lost all credibility with thinking people. When the President says he’s taking the issue to the U.N., you can read that to mean that he’s not going to waste any time worrying about North Korea.

These people are like a pack of monkeys who have been given slips of paper with phrases on them. Now and then, they pull out a slip of paper and read what is written on it.

I do not mean to imply they understand either what they are reading nor the consequences of their words.

Not only dumb, she used the high school debating method of calling out the opponents name as may times as possible. She said “George” 12 times..What a sophmoric interview—never address the questions.

Unlike Bolton, she is 100% “diplomat speak” - facts are gray not clear, equivocation, noncommittal, lack of judgment of anyone or anything; part of the “can’t we all just get along” crowd.

We are headed for disaster.

One can see it clearly. Six Party Talks just stalls for time and allows DPRK more and more time to develop capabilities.

John Bolton is the voice in the wilderness. After the smoke clears and it is safe to go into previously radioactive areas, people will think "what were we thinking! Why didnt we listen to that guy?"

And as for BOTH RICES (CONDOLEEZA and now SUSAN), they are the BIGGEST APPEASERS of NORTH KOREA YOU CAN FIND ON THE PLANET. THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.

Just feel bad about Sandy Burglar goign to Cornell.

Kooky Keith only went to the Cornell Agricultural School.

Big deal. But he namedrops Cornell every chance he gets.

AIT-you are so right.

We have been poorly served by the usual State Dept. employees and appointees.

Bolton has been a shining light and continues to be, even though he is no longer directly involved.

Is there no one in DC that is for America?

>>>Bolton is someone you can not only trust, but you can bank on.<<<

Truer words were never spoken!! The man is a stalwart giant among pygmies.

As you observed, we need him "on point".
