Anti-Obama talk worries some on right By: Michael Calderone April 4, 2009 06:45 AM EST
While Washington policy makers coped with 21st century political problems this week, some conservative talkers were dredging up 20th-century "-isms."
Glenn Beck, who graced the cover of The New York Times on Monday, teased Fridays episode of his increasingly popular new Fox News show with images of Stalin, Lenin and Hitler, while telling audiences on Wednesdays show that he was wrong to have said the Obama administration is leading America to socialism its actually fascism.
Theyre marching us towards 1984, Beck said. "Big Brother, hes watching.
Although Becks brand of libertarian conservatism has generated a strong following, some members of the right-leaning commentariat openly doubt whether such heated rhetoric is helpful to the Republican Party or the conservative movement at large.
Conservative author David Horowitz, himself no stranger to controversy or heated accusations, warns that the criticism of Obama among some conservatives has approached over-the-top hysteria." Its not just Stalin comparisons, Horowitz wrote this past week on FrontPageMag.com one contributor likened the president to David Koresh, Charles Manson and Saddam Hussein.
Borrowing from conservative writer Charles Krauthammer who in 2003 coined the term Bush derangement syndrome to describe some Bush haters Horowitz dubbed the piece, Obama Derangement Syndrome.
Conservatives, please, Horowtiz said. Let's not duplicate the manias of the left as we figure out how to deal with Mr. Obama. He is not exactly the anti-Christ, although a disturbing number of people on the right are convinced he is.

Weenies.
The more you see, the more you realize conservatives need a new party.
Worried? Hell, anti -Zero talk is ENCOURAGED and REWARDED in my house.
“Although Becks brand of libertarian conservatism has generated a strong following, some members of the right-leaning commentariat openly doubt whether such heated rhetoric is helpful to the Republican Party or the conservative movement at large.”
Right because their brand of weak, limp wristed “compassionate conservatism” has done so much for us up to this point.
Shrieking hysterically at Obama will do very little. Since it is a cult of personality his mythology must be attacked and dissasembled piece at a time.
Let us call it like we see it. It’s like being told to not call the enemy bad names during WWII.
If these “conservatives” are concerned about us sounding the alarm on the most radically liberal person ever to hold the presidency, then they are simply lost and hopeless. I’m not afraid to be Paul Revere...
The truth hurts and the socialists are starting to feel the pressure. We need to just as relentless with our agenda as the socialists have been with theirs for years.
Mr. HOrowitz... you are either Jewish or of Jewish Ancestry. Surely, you of all people, if you know ANY History at all, Comparing Obama to Stalinism, Fascism or Naziism is NOT “over the top”, but it is, in Fact, QUITE ACCURATE.
I think you have just hit on the consevative campaign slogan for 2010.
More hand wringing from the Politico. It’s always the right who is getting out of line, at least according to the effete media.
Obama’s extreme policies worry many across the political spectrum.
I just love how Horowitz, who has spent many years now, doing his best to whip people into a frenzy now wants everybody to be all nice to Bambi. I am learning to trust very little people. Seems like everybody is in it for themselves.
Horowitz needs to open his eyes. He isn’t a stalin or a hitler. A stalin and a hitler could not, and in fact were unable to destroy the United States.
Obama and his enemy within socialists are on the path to do just that. WAKE UP, Mr. Horowitz.
Horowitz point of not showing Obama Derangement Syndrome is right. The criticism must be founded in fact. Beck’s is very factual in his fear of Obama. If Horowitz is criticizing specifically Beck and others who are demonstrating where this man is leading us us, he is way off base and pretty much another worthless political pawn. If his quotes are being used out of context of his actual statements, he needs to get on the record.
Seems to me that Bush Derangement Syndrome is characterized by people holding up falsehoods as truth. Bush isn’t a war criminal, for example.
But labeling Barry’s governing philosophy as this or that based on the policies he advances aren’t evidence of “derangement.” Whether he’s just a Marxist or a full-blown Stalinist is simply a semantics debate.
