Time for a Tall Tale....which is true.
While a Good Buddy AFB in San Angelo, we of little dinero and little time off, would head off the Ramada Inn Friday nights to get a break from the AF burgers and fries mess line at the chow hall.
After a quick trip across the county line to pick up Lone Star in a bag, we'd treat ourselves to a meal which we could afford. The restaurant offered Steak.....Cowboy and Cowgirl sized for kids, a medium sized steak which was our regular (I forget what they called it....) and a Texas Style steak which was four pounds of some heifer, grilled and served with home fries and something real close to a salad. If you could eat the whole thing, you'd get a free meal next time you visited.
Only one of us tried to down a Texas Style steak dinner there once....didn't make it to the freebie and barely made it out the door.
Nothing endears the Lone Star State to me more than the challenge of being there.
