Since the US Navy would not qualify the F4U for Carrier Ops the Marines got their hands on a first class fighter!!!

Pappy Boyington and Bob Hanson among others were very happy:-)

I thought the USN eventually qualified it for carrier Ops. Of course, I've been wrong before and I'll defer to your encyclopedic knowledge of aviation.
