Pro-Abortion Journalist Chris Matthews To Speak At St. Joseph's
School Chooses Chris Matthews To Give Commencement Address By Chris Freind, The Bulletin Friday, April 03, 2009 Ignoring the controversy surrounding Notre Dames honoring of pro-abortion Barack Obama as its commencement speaker, Saint Josephs University has followed suit. It will grant an honorary degree to broadcast journalist Chris Matthews at the universitys 2009 commencement ceremonies.
Despite Mr. Matthews Catholic education, having graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, he is widely regarded as a strong supporter of abortion rights, and was unabashed in his admiration of Mr. Obamas positions.
Support for abortion is antithetical to the Churchs teachings.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops opposes the practice of hosting speakers who are outspoken against Catholic doctrine.
The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles, said the bishops conference in a statement. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.
Calls to Saint Josephs President Fr. Timothy Lannon went unreturned.

But...that's not even possible. There are some Parishoners who will go astray, even some Priests, but the "Church"? Jesus founded the Church. It will be here until the end of time. It is not possible to "walk away".
Please, anyone in the vicinity come out and give a well-earned “welcome” to this excuse for a newsman. I’m surprised Obamama hasn’t already appointed him ambassador to France or something.
He founded His church as a whole, universal (small c catholic) church. Where's the word 'catholic' found in the bible?
So you think its just Roman Catholics that are lost?
No, and I did not say or imply that.
[The Holy Spirit gave us the Bible, not any church. All scripture is given by inspiration of God.]
The Holy Spirit gave us the Church AND the Bible. What do think Acts Chapter 2 is about?
On the Day of Pentecost, a book didn’t fall from the sky. The Holy Spirit came, and started a Church. And the Church existed for hundreds of years before there WAS an official New Testament. And - through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit - the Church WROTE the New Testament, USED the New Testament, received it as inspired, and bound it into a single volume.
The Church is OLDER than the Bible.
How do you think those 27 separate books became CONSIDERED “The New Testament”?
Because the Church received them as inspired.
What came first, the chicken or the egg?
“All inspiration is given by God.”
Not popes.
I went to 16 years of Catholic school and NEVER studied the Bible. Institutions are flawed, the Word is not.
The “Church” is not the Catholic Church. It is the communion of saints. Not sure where the Bible talks about the Catholic Church, where I was a member for 35 years, being the Lord’s Church.
Roughly two full chapters of the Bible are read in every single mass, and the whole thing is read through yearly. Which is FAR more Bible reading than you get in your average evangelical church, where they typically read ONE VERSE, followed by a half an hour sermon.
And I also went to Catholic School, and “Religion” was anb actual class where we covered one of the Gospels ever semester. What Catholic School did you to that never had the Bible?
And once more: the Church is the only reason you HAVE a Bible.
The Bible doesn't talk about the Catholic Church, except for "on this rock you shall build my Church". Jesus chose Peter. Unbroken Apostolic succession every since. Jesus who is God founded the Catholic Church; the one true Church. This is the foundational reality. Hope you return soon.
