In observing Islamic culture it is readily clear that is a culture heavy on symbolic physical gestures. Gestures that show signs of respect, subordination or insult.

I am sure that this bow is not lost on people that read these gestures as part of their every day life. This is very troubling to me.

Indeed. Islam, like liberalism, is heavy on symbolism, principally because neither has much of substance to deliver.
