JAPAN NOW ON STRICT ALERT (Story: 6:11 a.m. Eastern Friday)
Jiji News Press ^ | 3 April 2009 | AmericanInTokyo

Posted on 04/03/2009 4:09:41 AM PDT by AmericanInTokyo

Announced by Government of Japan, and press story out within the last hour. Link to Japanese HERE.

This is probably pretty standard, more or less expected, and of course prudent.

Japan National Security Council told to be ready from tomorrow morning for the provocation and to stay ready in Tokyo.

Prime Minister Aso gave the word to Chief Cabinet Secretariat Kawamura on returning from UK/G-20 earlier today.

Stated to the Prefectures of Akita and Iwate--in Northern Japan--to be particularly alert but calm and ready for anything. Final quote was "chances of missile coming down toward Japanese soil are small, but if it does, we shall move to shoot it down."

Term in Japanese used for this alert was: 厳戒態勢に入った (genkaitaisei ni haitta) or "strict alert" (one could interchangeably say "high alert, or "heightened alert").

TOPICS: Front Page News; Japan; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: alert; bidentest; dprk; japan; kimjongil; korea; musudanri; nkorea; northkorea; pac3; taepodong
Will provide some English comment later if possible, but I am sure foreign (non-US wires) should pick this up fairly soon.

Sorry for the pun here, but "it's kind of a long shot".

But wouldn't that be something. I hope so, too. We would break out the cold Kirin beer Saturday night, that's for sure. ;-) So would a lot of people.

Thanks for your thoughts.

If it were on a trajectory that impacted Japan, shooting it down should be routine. Sadaam launched ballistic missiles at the start of Gulf War II and PAC-III handled them with ease, which is why you don’t hear about it in the MSM.

Thanks AiT for the continued stream of news from your part of the world, we would never see or hear this stuff unless we were to dig for it ourselves, this weekend looks to be ‘interesting’.

On a personal note, you can be sure that you are remembered in thought and prayer, you’re in a potentially dangerous situation, so watch your back and stay safe.

Best,

MKJ

Obama is talking about nuclear disarmament for the United States. Time for Japan to start building their own unless they want to become part of China.

Dude, nice to you to post info....

but we’re Americans, Obama is wowing Europe, Michelle is the new Oprah, the sky is falling at home, mother earth is having hot flashes and you want us to worry about a nutcase tyrant of a nasty nuclear communist dictatorship firing missiles....

On a side note, have you ever tried whalemeat in Japan?

I was thinking of what might irritate people more than smoking.......

If there is a strict alert, does that imply that they also have a laid back or casual alert? ;-)
