On March 20, reporters broke the astonishing news that a report from the Missouri Department of Public Safety was distributed to law enforcement agencies across our state that depicted Christians, anti-abortionists, advocates for protecting our borders and supporters of certain political candidates as potential "threats" to public safety.
The report was developed by the Missouri Information Analysis Center and was titled "The Modern Militia Movement." By title alone, the imagination conjures up images of commando renegades on remote outposts in secluded mountainous terrain.
However, while this "Modern Militia" report did touch on such radical ideologies, the groups purported to be "threats" were supporters of such political candidates as Bob Barr and Ron Paul. There are certainly individual extremists in many religious and political groups (both conservative and liberal), but Gov. Jay Nixon and director of public safety John Britt have created a dangerous precedent of profiling lawful citizens as threats to public safety simply based on their political or religious beliefs.
On Tuesday, Nixon and Britt said they stood by the content of the report, while both said they hadn't read it. Then, on Wednesday, Col. Jim Keathley of the Missouri State Highway Patrol issued a statement saying the review process for future MIAC memos would be changed. Shame on Governor Nixon and Britt for making a noble public servant and iconic law enforcement leader like my friend Colonel Keathley take the fall for their bureaucratic and political failures.
Keathley, the men and women of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and law enforcement officials across this state put their lives on the line each and every day to keep our communities safe. We should honor these everyday heroes for their sacrifices and never allow them to be used in a political ploy.
By Thursday, as conservatives across this state made their voices heard, Nixon decided to pass the blame to the previous administration. This is unacceptable. I am calling for Governor Nixon to place Britt on administrative leave pending a full investigation and accounting of acts of profiling under his supervision at MIAC.
All Missourians should rest assured that we are protected by the freedoms of our constitution and should never have to fear being monitored by their government based upon a person's race, place of birth, political beliefs or their spiritual convictions. Unfortunately, that confidence was shaken by the governor. Nixon remains ultimately responsible for his administration. Nixon should fully answer and apologize for what has been allowed to occur on his watch.

Rush Limbaugh gave brief remarks concerning Missouri and this report:
"Remember we told you not long ago that the state of Missouri had told the highway patrol that if you see a bumper sticker for a third-party political movement it's obviously a militia group and you gotta be worried, like anybody for Ron Paul or anybody for pro-life, or anybody NRA, and it caused an uproar, so the Missouri Highway Patrol this week retracted a controversial report on militia activity and will change how such reports are reviewed before being distributed to law enforcement agencies. The highway patrol also will open an investigation into the origin of the report, which linked conservative groups with domestic terrorism and named former presidential candidates Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin as dangerous reactionaries. The highway patrol's announcement followed a news conference in which Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, a Republican, suggested putting the director of public safety on administrative leave and investigating how the report was produced. So the fur flew out there over this, and they've rescinded it."

This governor has not been in office long enough to have had anyone make such an assessment since he came to power. So this warning had to have already been in the works and ready for ‘prime time’ distribution the day the governor took office. Now it might be telling what was apparently important to the now governor when he was attorney general of the state of MO.
I remember all the ‘tender family loving’ campaign ads run by the now Governor Nixon, claiming ‘down home’ family values, and ‘loving concern’ for Missouri families. This ‘warning’ for law enforcement to be on the ‘look out’ for what is apparently a considered threat by this now Governor tells me that he is already concerned about getting reelected.
I agree that the future is our children. Further, I believe the Department of Education is outside the limitations placed on the Federal government by the Constitution and should be eliminated, along with the Department of Agriculture, the Department of HHS, and the Department of Energy.
As a first step, I encourage active parental involvement in the education of their children. If the public schools are not providing the quality and content you deem necessary, then you should take immediate steps to correct the problem; up to and including removing the children to private or home schools.
Beyond that, we ALL must be actively involved in the issues of the day. We must be informed and we must be vigilant to keep our elected officials out of the areas prohibited to them.
It starts with each of us.

Good for you regarding the seeds. It's a good idea. I am growing stuff (corn, cantaloupe, watermelon, strawberries, pumpkin, etc.) too, in my back yard, if I can keep the damn squirrels away. I may have to look into the recipe for squirrel soup.

We are entering a place where the jackbooted thugs will wear suits and profess “green living” and “diversity & tolerance” when we all know it is Lefty doublespeak.
My fear is that children today are so blinded and indoctrinated these days that they have no perspective as to the invisible chains the schools, media and popular culture make them dance to...they are unaware of the manipulation into a world government and totalitarianism.

I was behind 3 sows today in the check out line who had 5 filled carts paid for with "Access" cards. Then they went out and loaded it all in a GMC Envoy. But I guess the stories that could be told on here might never end.
It’s a pitiful situation. I hate it because I love California but can’t stomach the people who run it all.
I don’t want to leave. My son and his wife bought a house here a couple of years ago so I hate the thought of leaving without them. They don’t have the option to leave with the albatross of a house around their necks unless they just walk away from it. They wouldn’t do that.
It’s just not smart to stay if you can get out.
Good for you, my son will get his Daddy’s philosophy too...funny, my parents were naturally conservative (educated, hard working, church going, hunters, sports lovers)...but not super political...
