Sebelius Confirmation Delayed by GOP Objection
CQ Politics ^ | 04/02/2009 | John Reichard

Senate confirmation of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to head the Department of Health and Human Services probably won’t take place until after the coming two-week recess because at least one senator has objected to an expedited procedure to move the nomination. “I’m afraid there’s a senator who will not grant consent so that means it has to be delayed until after the recess,” Finance Chairman Max Baucus , D-Mont., said Thursday.

Baucus would not name the senator other than to say he or she is a Republican.

The Obama administration appears to have dodged a Senate battle over abortion that might have come with Sebelius’ nomination. The governor has clashed several times with the Kansas Legislature over her support of abortion rights, but the state’s two conservative Republican senators, Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts — both prominent opponents of abortion — have lent her their support.

Why exactly are Bob Dole, Sam Brownback, & Pat Roberts supporting her?

May the Lord God bless this unnamed Republican senator and grant the strength to prevail.

I don't understand why a single ‘Pub would support these tax cheats. If the tables were turned and it was a ‘Pub nominee up there, the ‘Rats would be crucifying them. Look what they did to Bork, Tower, and Thomas over differences in ideology, much less not obeying the tax laws. They crucified Packwood and Lott over other non-legal issues. Now the ‘Pubs want to lay down for these tax cheats? But the ‘Rats let people stay in who are KKK members, let people drown in their cars, run brothels out of their homes, don't pay their taxes. Pretty disgusting.

To get her the HELL out of Kansas!

There will be some good, out of this!

George Tiller is a cash cow for far left abortion supporting liberals all across the country.

With a strong prolife governor, which we have never really had, we can really help the prolife cause in this state, and all across the country.

Granted, she is term limited out, next year, but, if she stays in Kansas she will then run for US Senate.

I prefer to concentrate on policy and politics. We MUST “Play Politics” if we want to win.

Personalities should be avoided, as an issue.

No matter WHO Obama puts in this post, that person will be a rabid pro-abort.

It is better to have Obama pick elected officials, because that gives Republicans a shot at the polls and gets rid of Dem vote getters, at the state level.

The reason not to support her is because of her abortion stands while claiming to be Catholic, not the tax nonsense. I read the details on her tax problem yesterday. One was failing to have confirming letters for contributions over $250. Turns out she had around 30 contributions but could find only around 27 confirming letters. This is IRS outrageous regulation nonsense in which they will not even accept a cancelled check as documentation. The other two were of a similar nature. She turned over her returns for an independent review, and this is the kind of stuff the outside auditor came up with. It is not tax evasion as per Geithner. That being said, she should be sent packing back to Kansas.

The tax stuff is very important.

Why did she not just go BACK to the charities involved and ask for a letter?

With email what it is today, that could have been done a LOT faster than filing an amended return.

It’s a Kansas thing I guess.

“Baucus would not name the senator other than to say he or she is a Republican. “

Man or woman, we found a Republican with COHONES.

Good for him/her.

“Why are Dole, Brownback and Roberts supporting her?” - Maybe because there isn’t a dimes worth of difference between your average Rat and Repub anymore. They are all big government spenders. They just don’t agree on who benefits from their largess is all. Now B.O. has taken his game to a whole new level but most of the rest of them are peas in a pod.

“To get her the HELL out of Kansas!”

That’s a great question since this woman is as evil as Hillary (if not more).

If Seb runs for Senate, she DOES have a machine behind her, and 99% of those people will ALSO vote for her “chosen” candidate for Governor.

We have to get her out of here!

Not even remotely feasible. Many charities don't keep records. For example, if she gave $700 in clothes to the United Cancer Foundation, there's no way to back that up other than the original notice of pickup. We're talking about a few thousand dollars in back taxes which the IRS could pretty much do to any and all returns it audits with any significant income or complexities. This is so much hot air. I have no beef, now or ever, with anybody getting hit with back taxes. This was deemed inadvertent and is therefor a non issue.

I agree, which is the reason I’m not angry with Brownback and Roberts on this.

Really?

If they willfully under reported, or attempted to de-fraud...or tried to write off their UNDERWEAR?

You got no problem with that?

If Sebelius ran for Brownback’s open Senate seat, she would win. With her out of of KS and in DC, chances are Brownback wins the Governorship and Republicans hold the Senate seat.

You are exactly right. Obama is going to put a rabid, left-wing, pro-abortionist as Secretary of Health and Human Services no matter what, so it might as well be Sebelius.
