To the surprise of no one, Sen. John McCain , the Republican Partys frequent goad and sometimes hero, continues to go his own way.
On Thursday, for instance, McCain broke with his partys strategy on the fiscal 2010 budget resolution and offered a full substitute proposal.
House Republicans were pressing a comprehensive, leadership-blessed alternative to the Democrats budget in that chamber, but Senate GOP leaders had decided to attack the Democrats proposal amendment by amendment.
That didnt suit McCain. He argued that an alternative should be offered to show the public that Republicans have a vision for the country.
His proposal which the Senate rejected by 38-60 on Thursday focused on reducing spending and providing more tax breaks, a policy Democrats argued would shortchange key programs and keep the economy in the ditch.
It called for $17.5 trillion in spending over the next five years, $1.15 trillion less than Obamas plan, $776 billion less than the House budget and $435 billion less than the Senate blueprint, according to a chart provided by McCains office.
Most of his cuts focused on entitlement programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, spending $922 billion less than Obama over the next five years on those and other entitlement programs and $3.1 trillion less over 10 years, according to his office. It also sought to extend all of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts and keep discretionary spending at lower levels than in the Democrats plans.
Tough decisions have to be made, McCain said on the floor Thursday.
Three of his Senate GOP colleagues apparently didnt think much of his budget decisions, however. Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine, along with Bob Corker of Tennessee, joined Democrats in opposing McCains substitute.
Im beginning to think that RINOs are the spotted owls of the Republican party. Theyre just a way to stop conservatives from doing anything. |

Are DEPENDS diapers paid for in his budget?
Many many many many times I have said and written — McCain is not a maverick. He is a renegade.
McCain to the rescue. Great. Just what we need ::rolls eyes::
Look! Up in the sky!
Faster than overnight Metamucil!
More powerful than a rich wife with a beer distributorship!
Able to leap to unfounded conclusions in a single bound!
It's a bird!
It's a plane! (which we should probably keep him from piloting)
It's SUPER RINO!
He should just do what he did last year. Suspend everything, go to a couple of parties with rock stars and Democrats, meander around the east coast, eventually find his way back to DC, and wander around aimlessly until members of his own party tell him to take a hike.
Senator McCain, say 'hi' to Bono for us.
(1) Obama's illegal campaign for Odinga in Kenya, and the massacre of Christians that followed. Dick Morris was there with him. He raised over $1Million for Odinga. Clear violation of the Logan Act. Just in case it escaped Mccain, Odinga was a jihadist marxist sonofabeech who wanted to install Sharia Law in breakaway provinces, expelling missionaries and Christians.
(2) McCain never pressed BHO, Jr. on the Ayers Connection, Never mind the people who paid for his education, Rezko, Wright, et al. Just dropped it.
(3) After selecting Palin, he did not defend her against the stupid attacks of the media.
Great Mystery: How did a guy who flew A-4s over North Vietnam lose his cojones for a fight with the preposterous one?
Shut up, John. We didn’t vote FOR you, we voted AGAINST Obama. Go home and build a fence and stay off the “air”.

Help me out here. Is this the same a$$clown named McCain that campaigned for POTUS on an “I-don’t-know-squat-about-the-economy” platform? The same one who went galloping back to Washington to “save us” during the bailout “crisis” by locking lips with Hank Paulson?
Or is this an economic genius McCain different from the loser of 2008?
Trying to live up (or down) to his reputation, instead of doing the right thing. You begin to drift when you take your eye of that spot on the horizon.
I look @ it differently: spotted owls are (or were) a threatened species, weren't they? I wish you could say that about Neocon RINO's. Instead of calling them spotted owls, I would say that they are the Kudzu of the GOP. Just like kudzu, they have spread & overtaken the natural vegetation after being released into an area. They permeate nearly everything you see, & choke out what was originally there & are nearly impossible to get rid of.
