Adamantly supporting the wanton destruction of human life isn’t grounds for defrocking? Oh, yeah *wink* *wink* he’s not “pro-abortion,” he just wants to dialog with Obama.
It was, in the recent past. I'm not sure when it changed.
I concur with Your thought my email talked about the politics of it Archbishop Burke will get this one resolved.... behind the scenes like a Consligliore...God bless ya!

I have really turned to GOD to rescue us from this mess! only he will beable to set it straight! as usual it will be in his time!
Legalistic bullshit. As I said before, Bishop D'Arcy is a man. And he can act like a man. When they presented him with a crozier, they did not remove his testicles or the muscles from his arm or the bones from his back.
He could call for the entire student body and all Catholics to join him in a public fast and Rosary at the Grotto, concurrent with the graduation, in reparation for the "abominable crimes" of abortion and infanticide.
He could tell Fr. Jenkins that, as chief teacher in his Diocese, he's decided to attend the commencement anyhow, and claim his right to use the dais as his platform to explain the moral principle that everyone must defend the Sanctity of Life. Teach the basics. Teach that human nature bears the Image and Likeness of God, which conveys equal dignity to the Embryo in the Womb, the PhD on his academic perch, and the President in the Oval Office.
He could say that if he is not afforded this platform, he will conduct a counter-graduation just outside the gates, AND (canonical frosting on the cake) rescind Notre Dame's right to call itself a Catholic University.
I don't think D'Arcy lacks an orthodox faith. I think he lacks imagination of the MANY ways he can teach, govern, and sanctify.
We, the laity, need to school him on this. Dangus, please join me in this. Please write to Bishop D'Arcy with a few love-inspired, flame-edged, inspired ideas.
“”If there’s no canonical solution, there’s nothin’ “
Legalistic bullshit.”
Mrs. D, the canons are not “Legalistic bullshit”. If even a significant minority of Roman Catholics, hierarchs, monastics, clergy and/or laity believe that, then in all honesty, any discussions with the Orthodox Church about reunion are just more theater, theater of the absurd at that. Those discussions ought to be with those others who believe the canons are “Legalistic bullshit”, the protestants.
The irony of your post, however, is that the canonical solution to the problem is pretty much exactly what you proposed, assuming that the hierarch with canonical jurisdiction and not some cheap, intermeddling politician in a mitre is the one taking action.
That’s what is frustrating. The bishops are bending from a highway to Hell, but the religious orders (Jesuits, Franciscans) are not at all. And the head Fr. Jenkins’ order can’t even say whether the invitation was wrong, let alone punish anyone.
I said, not that the canons were "l-- bull---," but that "thinking, 'If there's no canonical solution, there's nothin' is l--- bull---"
My point is that
If I remember correctly, Orthodoxy is big on the authority of the laity to call priests and hierarchs to repentance. I say this very cordially. Stand with us. Get up and fight. And if you won't or can't, then of your mercy pray for those who do.
“First, as regards Bishop D’Arcy, whether or not the University of ND is under his direct canonical control, he still has the duty to “teach, govern and sanctify.”
If it isn’t, then the Latin ecclesiology system in this country is absolute nonsense. Can you imagine, in the Orthodoxy system, Fr. Triantafilou, president of Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline, defying Archbishop Demetrios speaking for the Synod or Metropolitan Methodios?
“Second, as regards the laity, the power of the “sensus fidelium” is vast, and is not limited by what is explicitly spelled out in the canons.”
Of course it is. Use it. It is your OBLIGATION to use that power. Don’t wait for a hierarch with a political agenda, left or right, to put on their circus. Following those types make you look like a political pressure group, not Christians.
“Stand with us. Get up and fight. And if you won’t or can’t, then of your mercy pray for those who do.”
The disciplinary failures of the Latin Church are none of our affair, especially those so fraught with political (both secular and ecclesiastical) overtones. I thank God that our Hierarchs have the canonical sense to stay away from this internecine battle.
I'm admittedly not up to speed on related Orthodox matters, e.g. I'm just not aware of the Orthodox having injuctions against receiving communion for those Orthodox politicians who decide to pass laws that grossly violate their faith's moral code. It's anyone's guess what Olympia Snowe's priest tells her in private in regards to her antilife views. Obviously, it hasn't had any impact on her publicly stated views. As a matter of fact, she has an 83% pro-abportion voting record!
Maryland Democratic Senator, Paul Sarbanes has a 100% pro-abortion voting record.
Rod Blagojevich, another soi-disant Orthodox, in his past career voted against banning human cloning, voted against making it a "federal crime to harm fetus while committing other crimes", and joined Snow and Sarbanes in voting "NO" on banning partial-birth abortions.
In other words, they have all taken affirmative steps to make abortion more common and to prevent abortion being curtailed by law.
The fact that I'm Catholic, myself, wouldn't stop me from jumping into the fray on this. If the matter ever came up, I would join Orthodox in saying they ought to be be given due ecclesiastical penalties.
But the matter never seems to come up, y'know?
As for you, I humbly ask your prayers. Pray hard.
