But please do write an e-mail or send a letter or two. Consider it a practical application of your Baptismal Promises.
Please.
Yes, you are right. The USCCB does have unwavering support for the sanctity of life. I guess critism of the USCCB is with respect to other issues. Still, it surprising that the USCCB issued a statement as strong as this condemning NDU's decision.
Be that as it may, Fr. Jenkins is clearly the one responsible for this outrageous decision. Thank you for the address in Rome. I will absolutely use it. Rest assured, I've already contacted the University and the Trustees to voice my disgust and to let them know my alumni support (financial and otherwise) is over.
BTW, I understand the Cardinal Newman Society's President, Patrick Reilly, has actually flown to Rome and cornering everybody with a red hat about this travesty.
We're on a roll.
I thought it might be interesting to post the Notre Dame mission statement.
The University seeks to cultivate in its students not only an appreciation for the great achievements of human beings, but also a disciplined sensibility to the poverty, injustice, and oppression that burden the lives of so many. The aim is to create a sense of human solidarity and concern for the common good that will bear fruit as learning becomes service to justice.
I guess the mission statement doesn’t apply to the unborn.
The graduates need to boycott the ceremony and speechifying.
I’ve seen good reports on Ralph McInerny’s stories. I’ll have to give them a try.
Dr. Cavadini, the dept head, is another good theologian and there’s a woman whose name I don’t recall but I’ve heard Scott Hahn mention her as someone he respects.
There are bad professors at Notre Dame but I think it’s important not to pretend there aren’t good ones as well.
McInerny’s “Aquinas and Analogy” is a great book, IMHO.
His detective novels might be described as an American version of Chesteron’s Father Brown series.
Aquinas and Analogy , that sounds like me! thanks
