It's official: former State Senate Pro Tem Don Perata is making the move to run for Oakland mayor.
Chronicle comrade Chip Johnson has the scoop today, talking to Perata after last week's services for the four slain Oakland cops.
And Perata said that was a catalyst for his decision to take on the tough job which has also been occupied for two terms by state Attorney General Jerry Brown.

It takes a real crook to run a joint like Oakland
Vote PeRATa
Good luck Oakland!
peRATa is right.
Mayor PeRATa?
Hmmm...I don’t know if Oakland is gonna go for this. They just emerged from the long nightmare of white rule when they exchanged Jerry Brown for Red Dellums.
From my vantage point on the other side of the moat, I think most Oaklanders like it just the way it is - they love their thugs and gangstas. There is a small, vocal minority who apparently would like to see some sort of law and order and civilized civic behavior but they are greatly outnumbered by free pie enthusiasts.
Oakland is loaded with well-funded organizations whose job it is to harass the police and hug the thugs. Oakland is also a sanctuary city so that tells you right from the jump that the local politicians condone lawlessness.
One of the best things to come out of Willie Brown’s columns was his comment that if you’re going to dine in Oakland, be sure and order the soup....that way you’ve got someplace to hide your jewelry when the place gets robbed.
Good one...Oakland is a special place.
That should calm the city down.
He’ll win, and he’ll make the City long for the good-old-days of Mayor Moonbeam.
I've got to hit Google and find out if Spenger's Fish Grotto is still in business...
Woops.....it’s been a long time; Spanky’s place is over in Berkeley.
I much prefer the title "Don Perata, convicted felon."
Where, oh where, is that indictment?
That’s in Berkeley.
There are no less than 100 illegal aliens lined up from I-80 to 4th Street looking for day jobs...
Berkeley police cruise by and say, “Thank God we are a sanctuary city...otherwise, I may have to do real work.”
I much prefer the title “Don Perata, convicted felon.”
Where, oh where, is that indictment?

Justice as in Justice Dept.
More than a few FBI folk are chomping at the bit to do the perp walk boogie. They need to remove politics from it and wrap this thing up, present to a GJ and go from there.
To let what goes on here alone is just more Business as usual ,, keeping it in the ‘family’ ,, in other words ,, justice is so much vapor
I hear ya. A whole lot of that going around lately.
