If he’s a registered Democrat, it won’t be a problem.

The IRS likes to plant tax-cheat-goes-to-jail scare stories in the press ahead of April 15th as part of their anti-taxpayer "shock and awe" strategy.

The storyline is playing out somewhat differently this year, between the Democrat tax thieves who never made it into ODumbo's cabinet, the ones that did (including the head of the Treasury Dept.), and Congressman Rangel who heads the committee that writes the tax laws being exposed as a longtime tax cheat, and Al Sharpton settling with the IRS for a fraction of what he owes in back taxes and penalties. Now the IRS agent who cheated on his taxes is making the headlines.

Maybe the prosecution described here was intended as a shot across the bow to instill fear and loathing in the hearts of other IRS apparatchiks, but it will have exactly the opposite effect for the general public. Rather than being a morality play to hammer in the message of "pay your taxes or else", the take-home message for most people will be something like "the corrupt politicians, bureaucrats, and other criminals are in charge of the government - why shouldn't I be allowed to play the same game that they are playing?".

[While having a high proportion of "the criminal class" among those running the government has been the case all too often in the past, now that His ODumboness is in power, it's becoming increasingly difficult for the Feds to hide that fact from the people.]

Innocent error. People who use turbotax do this all the time.

He pleaded guilty to one federal count of subscribing to a false tax return, a charge that carries a penalty of up to three years in prison.

I don't know the facts, but I suspect that Liu knows better than to have a jury trial. (Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.)
