yes, gipper, when those who were not property owners and thus did not have a stake in the country were allowed to vote, that was another huge mistake.

Sorry if this might get me booted off FreeRepublic, but what the f**k??

As far as property owners? . For most of the 19th century a married woman had no property rights. Even to what she brought as her own into the marriage.
And you might want to look into what many election days were like back then. Pretty rowdy, drunken events where I’m not sure how many of these voters were casting their ballot in the best state of mind.
