Police held back would-be rescuers as three people died in a house fire, angry neighbours said last night.
They said they could see heavily-pregnant Michelle Colley at an upstairs window, screaming 'please save my kids'.
But police said they had to wait for firemen to arrive.
By then, however, Mrs Colley, 25, her husband Mark, 29, and their three-year-old son Louis were dead.
Their daughter Sophie, five, is fighting for her life in hospital.
Family friend David Davis, 38, said: 'It was the most harrowing thing I have ever seen.
'Michelle was at the bedroom window and we wanted to help but the police were pushing us back and not allowing us near.

The British police were once famous around the world for their decency and courage; in the past twenty years they have been turned into lazy, form checking, cowardly, politically indoctrinated government workers of the worst type.
All public safety entities suffer from the same big bugaboo....fear of liability.
Another dispatch from the huge, gaping chasm of suck where Great Britain used to be.
And, didn’t the UK recently propose removing fire extinguishers from apartment complexes?
Really.
To save lives.
Yep.
They figured it was dangerous to try to fight a fire, so fire extinguishers were causing all the deaths.
If unarmed Brit cops can stop you from saving your family, you probably weren’t going in there in the first place.
That’s the mark of the union label.
The Daily Mail is a solid newspaper
Somebody could have been sued if somebody was hurt while they were not strictly following the rules!
Besides, the Fireman's Union is in charge of doing the "rescuing" at fires, not the Police Union - or untrained nonunion peasants!
Sheesh, people! Priorites, please,... PRIORITIES!
Damn...
Well put.
Socialism at work.
It’s not in the police contract to save their lives. That’s reserved for the fireman.
Very brave they stood their ground, they could have lost their jobs.
But stopping the firemen from saving people?
<< ‘It’s unbelievable that it could happen like that. Everybody wanted to try and help. You can’t have respect for police if they have no respect for other people’s lives. >>
This is one of the saddest stories I have read about the decline of Great Britain. How many of these three could have been saved with a ladder and some willing helpers.
My husband saved the lives of people living next door to his mother when he was visiting her, and he awoke to screams coming through the wall of the terrace house.
He ran downstairs, jumped over the hedge and ran up the stairs next door and got two people outside before any fire dept could get there. These ex-council houses have narrow walled-in stairways, that have to be terrifying when thick black smoke and some flames are between the bedrooms and the front door. But this family should not have died.
As I remember, he was cautioned not to do it in the future!
I hope these police men have nightmares for their rest of their days. I hope they hear that poor woman’s screams every night until the day they pass out of this world and must face this woman at the gates of Heaven. Let them burn in the flames of everlasting punishment for their cowardice.
You give them far, far, more credit than they deserve.
Just police; I object to your use of the word "men" when describing them.
what happened to jumping out of a window onto a large blanket or beadspread held by numerous people?
The family were inside, the police stopped the neighbours, several carloads of cops with truncheons, and CS spray can persuade neighbours to butt out if they want to. If you read the article one woman did manage to evade the police by going around the back and climbing over a garden wall but then an officer stopped her there too.
Sorry, it’s the cops fault not any cowardice on the part of the neighbours.
The UK Socialists will just consider this.....”Ah, well. Nevermind. Less to suck off ‘the system’.”
