greyfoxx and I and several other posters here are ex-mormon. We are only trying to warn people about the parts of Mormonism that Mormons keep silent about. This practice is called meat before milk. Mormons believe that you aren’t properly prepared to accept the “deeper” doctrine.

I believe this is a form of lying to the unsuspecting. I think that anyone who is investigating Mormonism should recieve the whole truth - all the facts - so that then the investigator will be able to make a truly informed decision. For that, we are labeled “anti-Mormon.”

Don’t you even wonder a tiny bit why they try to hide their own doctrine? Why don’t they gladly shout it from the rooftops.

If you google the term “Lying for the Lord” you will see many, many sites about Mormonism pop up and very few referrences to other religions. Have you ever wondered about the very costly PR campaign the Mormons have launched during recent years and why. It isn’t just about gaining members IMO, it is about changing public perception.

I'm not so much concerned with speaking the "truth" as to the manner in which it's done. The adherents of every faith believe that theirs possesses the "truth". The essential points which need to be made in most any argument can be made in a handful of posts at most. At that point, your protagonist has either accepted what you've put forward or he's rejected it. Beyond that point it becomes an exercise in repetition and mere points scoring.

Sometimes, all you can do is plant the seed. Once you've launched "the crusade" it becomes an obsession and that shows very clearly to lurkers. Knowing when to back off is one of the requirements of religious debate. Care needs to be exercised when pointing out "the truth". Otherwise, jihad is the result. A holy war. That's what the religion forum resembles on many occasions.

All in the name of "truth".

I asked that question in my “missionary prep” class at BYU, after being given a list of doctrines we were not to discuss/teach to “investigators” (potential converts).

The instructors response: “If we told them the truth, no one would join.” That answer is why I re-thought my decision to go on an LDS mission.
