LOL! Where would we be if it were not for women, their desire to gossip, and their inability to keep secrets?!

No Replies - until ME??

I'd think you'd be DEAD by now!

I guess I do miss the point. (Which is why I rarely post on religion threads). I read these threads and I am reminded of when my best friend (Southern Baptist) married her husband (Catholic) in 1972. No one in either church had an issue with it. However her aunt did. She gave my friend one of those publications which described the Pope as the anti-Christ on the very day of the wedding.

I am not anti-Mormon or pro-Mormon anymore than I am anti-Baptist or pro-Baptist or anti-Catholic or pro-Catholic. The faith of my neighbors is not an issue to me.

(That is of course unless they were Islamic fundamentaists)

You're missing the point my good FRiend. The question is not about whether religious differences should be debated, but whether this, a conservative website & quasi think-tank, is the forum for these issues.

Pardon the quick interject, but I think this strays from the whole issue that started this, namely a disgruntled antifreeper decides to come back into FR and troll around and see what gets stirred up (against FR stated rules as enumerated by the RM at the time). After being put into his place, that antifreeper decided to try to convince lds freepers not to support FR as well as engage in McCarthy tactics. Had this instigator minded his business, we'd be freeping as usual. However, this antifreeper decided to inject the religion aspect into matters (because he was a disgruntled romney supporter). So the issue posed by this entire thread is an attack by an antifreeper on the basis of mormonism. So lets not forget where this thread got started and why.

Why would they want to willingly accept a lesser substitute which required (often unachievably) more from them with a lesser guarantee, more frustrations, more arcane rules imposed after the fact...

Why embrace something which withholds such a significant amount of (apparently needful) information from so many average and newly initiated members - as closely guarded secrets?

Why would they choose a lesser faith? Smug self-satisfaction. The feeling of “we are the ONLY TRUE CHURCH” and looking down upon others. The LDS will claim they are humble, but I have met few LDS that are truly humble, especially in UTAH. I am not saying there aren’t any, there are, but it was not the overall attitude I saw. The American concept of “rugged individualism” (that I admire and emulate) is taken to the extreme in the LDS Church. Even to the point of ‘earning’ salvation. That was one of the things that attracted me to the LDS.

Why not tell the whole story? As I was told in my “mission prep” class at BYU: “If we told the truth [to investigators], no one would join”

Then I don't have an answer.

OK. I'm not that computer savvy either but I don't think an outside party can get your IP address that way without some serious hacking tools. Just my opinion.

If you read the stories of (too) many exmormons, many become atheistic as a reaction to the discovery that their faith is false and do not want to have anything to do with ‘god’ anymore.

There is also the constant brainwashing from childhood on that “if the LDS church in not true, then NO church is.”

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 5:3
When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.

The Lord said search the scriptures...

Smith, Young, Taylor, Pratt, Snow, Kimball, Woodruff ...

say, " IGNORE the scripture!!!"

 1 Timothy 3:2-3
 2.  Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
 3.  not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

1 Timothy 3:12
A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.

 Titus 1:6
An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

BEHOLD!!!!  The Restorative Power  of the Book of Mormon!!

THE BOOK OF JACOB
THE BROTHER OF NEPHI
CHAPTER 2

24 Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.
25 Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.
26 Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.
  27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.
29 Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.
30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.
31 For behold, I, the Lord, have seen the sorrow, and heard the mourning of the daughters of my people in the land of Jerusalem, yea, and in all the lands of my people, because of the wickedness and abominations of their husbands.
32 And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.

Yes; she is!

She Calso ANNOT or WILL not tell us what is UNTRUE about Presbyterianism that Joseph Smith claimed to have 'learned' even though she has stated that she used to BE one!

Let not your heart be troubled. Let the usual suspects continue to rail against the claimed evils of our faith. The negative energy is to no avail. The caravan moves on and the Lord's true Gospel continues to fill the earth.

While the usual suspects have spewed their venom ad infinitum and mocked the tenets of our faith the last few months, I have been privileged to see several families in my community come unto Christ by entering into the waters of baptism and joining our faith. They are happy and joyful, having a deep and abiding testimony of their Savior born of the Spirit. Fortunately, their seeds are now planted in good ground unlike the rocky ground into which the seeds of others have fallen.

My son (one of the 60,000 missionaries of our faith) is now serving a mission in the South Pacific and bringing others unto Christ. His letters are filled with faith as he shares with us the joy many have experienced at going into the waters of baptism and entering into the Good Shepherd's fold.

The stone cut out of the mountainside is rolling forth to fill the earth and the detractors will not stop it.

Mormon at times is a nick name also a slang by fomenters

DECEIVED is a characteristic by which the Christian world can identify a MORMON.

Just because the LDS doctrine is different they still believe in Jesus Christ so no matter how much any here try to say the LDS are not they are just by the defenition!

Just because the FLDS doctrine is different they still believe in D&C 132 so no matter how much any Living Prophet® who lives high atop SLC, tries to say the FLDS are not MORMON, they are - just by the defenition!
