I think the answer to that question is obvious. I am not sure if Gates is just happy to keep his job or if he feels he can help the country by fighting as best as he can for the “good guys” from the inside.

Agreed.

Militarily we are prepared.

Politically, ethically and otherwise we are not prepared.

Capitulation and appeasement are the orders of the day.

Right on!

If you read the question and the answer he gives is "No", it means there is something we could do about it.

By saying "we are not prepared to do anything about it" means that the ADMINISTRATION has decided not to do anything. That means Obama, maybe with Ms Clinton's input, made the decision. Gates may run the Pentagon, but he doesn't make decisions about things like this that involve diplomacy.
