If you are reading this newspaper, the likelihood is that you agree with the Obama administration's recent attacks on conservative radio talker Rush Limbaugh. That's the likelihood; here's the certainty: You've never listened to Rush Limbaugh.
Oh no, you haven't. Whenever I interrupt a liberal's anti-Limbaugh rant to point out that the ranter has never actually listened to the man, he always says the same thing: "I've heard him!"
On further questioning, it always turns out that by "heard him," he means he's heard the selected excerpts spoon-fed him by the distortion-mongers of the mainstream media. These excerpts are specifically designed to accomplish one thing: to make sure you never actually listen to Limbaugh's show, never actually give him a fair chance to speak his piece to you directly.
By lifting some typically Rushian piece of outrageous hilarity completely out of context, the distortion gang knows full well it can get you to widen your eyes and open your mouth in the universal sign of Liberal Outrage. Your scrawny chest swelling with a warm sense of completely unearned righteousness, you will turn to your second spouse and say, "I'm not a liberal, I'm a moderate, and I'm tolerant of a wide range of differing views -- but this goes too far!"
There is more untruthfulness in that statement than in a speech by President Obama.

“...you will turn to your second life-partner and say...”
That kinda roils with the whole concept...I like the twist you added there...
Forget that, no grades,no BC,no nuttin’ about the dear leader...
This is the De facto mantra of the left.
No one knows how to use the medium as well as Rush does. Many of us try but no one gets even close to how good he is.
Levin actually has better knowledge than Rush on many topics including constitutional law and other fine points but he too acknowledges how well Rush plies the air waves using every technique ever taught and some only he knows.
I have a female friend who frequently talks like a conservative, yet consistently votes for Democrats. Every time she makes a statement that comes from a conservative perspective, I point it out and ask he why she continues to elect the very people who enact measures that infuriate her.
She is adamantly "pro-choice", however, and that single issue seems to outweigh the many conservative positions that she appears to hold in most other areas. So the Dems get her vote.
To come to the conclusion that all they learned from their Professors, Parents, Ministers and Rabbi's in the political arena was not based on Aristotelian Logic but may be bunk and that is to hard to handle...
My own experiences of politely handing them things we deem as truth, does not invoke anger but blanks stares. For instance, post the Colimbine Attack I am at a function with a table of liberals some of which were spouting gun control. When I asked them if they remember Pat Buchanan's 92' speech that this was a war on our culture, I said I am not sticking up fo Pat, but does anyone get his speech now? That what these two Evil Teenagers did, could have been done by any means other than a gun and what in the culture allowed this? Their was no retort, the blank stares and the silence was deafening.
I agree with you. Rush has great “technique”. I just want to make the point that Rush isn’t PRIMARILY about technique, just like Reagan wasn’t PRIMARILY about clever ways of hog-tying the opposition.
Rush is — as was Reagan — a man of substance. Substance first and foremost. Substance based on a strong understanding of the principles that make America great.
He’s worked the technique into that. But it’s the substance that makes him truly great.
You’re absolutely right. I think this is why casual listeners don’t get him. They haven’t paid well enough attention to actually figure out the answers when Rush poses a question or laugh when Rush makes a joke.
Indeed, but what separates Rush as well as most conservatives is to admit that they don't know everything and defer to people of expertise in the field.
It's intellectually honest and serves to brighten ones horizons.
Libs on the other hand think they know it all and refuse to listen, let alone acknowledge their shortcomings.
LOL!
I simply say that, “A lot of book burners never even read the books they wanted to burn.”
Thank you for the article. I now have a new, to me, writer that I can look for in the future. Very entertaining article.
Liberals hate hearing the truth. In fact, they go out of their way to squash it like the fascists they are.
When it comes to political discourse no one can keep up with Rush. He knows his subject inside out and has sources second to none.
Where he excels better than anyone alive is he can do all that live on the air and with a moments notice no Totus allowed!
NO one else is that good on the air.
For sure, worse than that most libs have a blind allegiance to the left and never even question what pap/lies/distortions they are fed.
