Socialists don’t do anything without a reason.
While we do homeschool, and our children do learn at their own pace, the goal is different in their case.
In France, for instance, they know which children are moving ahead at an early age, and which ones are falling behind. It helps them categorize people into those that will eventually go to college, and those that won’t.
They know which ones “get” things immediately, which ones take 2x to burn something in, and those that take 5x to get something to burn in.
The tests merely prove their point.
Because the STATE takes care of education through college, you can forget about being a late bloomer — if you don’t show what they are looking for you will be classified for menial labor.
Pity the folks that were late bloomers.
Welcome to Obamaland.
Yes and I was a late bloomer. With community colleges, distance learning in all its forms, late bloomers, non traditional students and so forth can earn at least a master’s degree from an accredited college.
When I went to public school we had designations. An example of 5th grade was 5-1, 5-2 etc. The ones in 5-6 were the slower learners and the ones in 5-1, 5-2 were quicker learners.
In 6th grade, the kids who were in 6-1 and 6-2 got to test for what was called SP in JHS. That was where students at advanced learning levels could skip 8th grade. It was pretty simple.
Today they are afraid to write in red ink for fear of hurting a kids self esteem.
My one daughter is what would be called a late bloomer. She struggled with reading because of vision tracking problems and really didn’t read until 5th grade. If I read the stuff to her, she got every answer. She knew it all, it was just a matter of getting it down on paper.
Now in 11th grade, her classwork far outshines that of her brother and sister who showed their abilities at a much earlier age. The youngest one is MUCH better at the practical application of what she knows. Even though the oldest tested smarter, it’s all in the theoretical stuff like relativity and string theory and all.
Sounds like France has a pretty lousy system.
