TV alert: ABC's 'Nightline' investigates puppy mills
Orlando Sentinel ^ | Mar 26, 2009 5:41:25 PM | Karen Saunders

This Friday night (March 27), ABC's Nightline will investigate puppy mills. ABC correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi and investigators from Nightline travel the byways and back roads of Lancaster County, Pa., visiting numerous puppy mills and filming Main Line Animal Rescue's volunteers as they rescue breeding dogs and puppies from Lancaster County's notorious Amish commercial breeding facilities.

Sharyn Alfonsi interviewed, on camera, an Amish breeder while touring his facility -- a first for network television. With approximately 500 dogs housed on his property, this commercial breeder speaks openly about an industry cloaked in secrecy and suspicion -- the cruel factory farming of man's best friend.

TOPICS: Crime/Corruption; Editorial; US: Pennsylvania
KEYWORDS: puppies; puppymills
PLEASE tell your friends, your family, your co-workers to watch Nightline at 11:35 p.m. (ET) Friday. Please take the time to forward this to all the rescues, shelters and legislators in your area. It has been almost a year since Oprah Winfrey's puppy mill show aired. That program received the highest viewer response of any Oprah show in years. Now we need to spread the word about this very special Nightline. Only by educating as many people as we can, will we be able to help these animals. And after you watch the program, please don't hesitate to contact ABC and Nightline to thank them for casting such a strong light on the plight of our nation's puppy mill dogs.

Note: Friday's airing of Nightline's investigation of puppy mills is subject to breaking news. If for any reason it is not shown, it will air the beginning of next week. Please check listings for your area.

...well, the MSM has yet to ask any probing question of The One, so they’ve got to fill their time slots with something.

Yeah, the nerve of them. Next thing you know they’ll be worrying about crime, child neglect, toxins in our food or defective products.

Let’s not obsess too much. I share your taste for Obama but that doesn’t mean we should have a fit when a news show reports on something equally odious.

Dog in Oven Pictures, Images and Photos

This is just about the best indicator that Obama is tanking. 20 years ago when Dukakis was losing to Bush the networks took off to the Arctic Circle to cover the rescue of a couple stranded whales...

Again, EXCUSE ME!!

You are suggesting that puppy mills are as odious as someone destroying the greatest country that has ever been on earth?

As odious as someone destroying the greatest agent of good the world has ever seen?

Who the hell is gonna watch out for puppies when we don't have food to eat (EXCEPT puppies) because we don't have jobs OR a country?

Don’t hurt the wittle doggies but abort all the babies.

Honestly, I don’t like what they do but there are many, many more pressing concerns in my world.

Why do pro-lifers hate dogs?

Seriously, whenever anyone on this board says anything about animal cruelty some pro-lifer predictably starts in about how no one should waste their time thinking about the issue and implies that anyone who opposes wanton animal cruelty must think abortion is fine and dandy.

You know, it IS possible to be against animal cruelty AND infanticide. It's also possible to post about more than one subject once in a while.

I agree with you. Conservatives should have hearts big enough to care about animal abuse as well as abortion and other social ills. Jesus said even God in heaven knew when a sparrow would fall. God cares about animals too.

‘soft’ news is quite popular. Puppy mills are a good soft news topic.

Awareness of the existence of puppy mills is important for the pet buying public. Puppy mills are able to raise animals, not necessarily puppies, for very low prices. However, their extreme cost cutting measures tend to produce malnourshed, diseased, and or mentally unstable animals.

As buyers in a free market economy, we must be on the guard for people that will try to scam you with inferior products.

I speculate that Americans would not choose the cheaper (initial cost) and inferior puppy mill puppy.

I do not like the intent result of fowarding this to legislators in your area. Puppy mill puppies may not serve the pet buying market, but there may be industries whom are best served by puppy mills. (eaters of dog meat?)

Almost everything that Oprah exposes is meant to make people hate another group of people. While there is probably some abuse, where is SHE, now that we have an abuser of the US Constitution in the WH? Silent, as with the rest of the media. They are happy that our country is finally moving in the direction of communism, and ‘brotherly-love’, but their terms of ‘brotherly-love’ are dangerous to freedom lovers and normal people.

“Puppy mills” are an emotional argument that has been used to impose regulations here in PA that are closing down decent kennels and animal shelters.

The animal rights wackos don’t believe in pet ownership to begin with.

ABC is 15 years late.

I used to be in the media around Lancaster County and this “puppy mill” BS started with undercover reporting by a local reporter from WGAL-TV.

Susan Shapiro, known by former colleagues as an aminal right sympathizer with a “pro-choice” view on abortion, started this shindig with her reporting on WGAL-TV, the local NBC station.

ABC is copying someone else’s work.

Meh. My original point was that ABC is, as usual, looking anywhere but where they SHOULD be looking.

Puppy mills may be odious, but there is NOTHING as odious as what is going on in our government, to suggest there is, is asinine. The butt-hurt poster got between me and one of my pet targets, the lying complicit media. Bad place to get. I'll go away, now.
