New Jersey Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg has written the FDA trying to ban Ecigarette Sales.

“5.00 for 30.”

That is 30 cartridges. That is about the same as 15 packs of cigs. They like to tell you one cartridge equals one pack but it doesn’t. It last me the same as 5-6 cigs.

So that would be about 5.00 for a carton and half of smokes.

Actually, when Texas raised their cigarette tax in 2007, I switched to the stuff your own variety. Now that the feds raised the excise tax on a pound of tobacco to $24 for a $15 pound of tobacco, I'm seriously thinking of switching to e-cigs.

Actually Sen Lautenberg describes them pretty accurately.

Some of the e-cig sites tout them as a way to quit smoking. The one I deal with PureSmoker.com (not a plug)states plainly that no studies have been done and they don't sell them as a quit-smoking device - though some folks certainly have. Some cartridges have 0% nicotine.

Prices vary - I've seen the $150 ones. Mine cost around $50. My daughter found one for $24. You can buy new cartridges or just buy the liquid for around $10.

I've used them in waiting rooms, airports, and plane trips (though sort of surreptitiously). No they don't quite replace real cigarettes (I'm still smoking); but that may change after my supply runs out.

The one I use is really great. I plug it into a USB port to recharge the battery. Its called an ICIG made by Smoking Everywhere out of Sunrise Fla.

I’ve been using it for about four months now and haven’t had any craving for tobacco at all. Its much cheaper in the long run and healthier too.

I’ll have to ask her. I think she found it on e-bay. I know I’ve seen the bottles of liquid for as little as $4.

I don’t use mine a lot - yet. But I do enjoy sitting at my PC in my office and blowing a little “smoke” (actually it’s call vaping)or getting a little hit of nicotine when I cant use the real stuff.

I forgot to mention that they also make cartridges that contain vitamins and come in a variety of flavors. I like the ones that taste like blueberries and the ones that taste like bubblegum. They come with or without nicotiene.

You really need to research the prices. You can pay a lot or little. The products I will be selling are made so that they do not need cleaning and are rated a little better on the user forums. You just need to do your homework. There are plenty of videos on you tube.

I can tell you this is the only thing that has worked from me. I learned about it from a freeper on another thread. I have seen a big improvement in my breathing and general health. Sense of smell, taste, all of that. So has my wife.

If they were really concerned about peoples health they should make these easier to get. Not harder.

I really don’t want this to turn into a spam post. There are lots of places you can get them though. I will not even be able to sell them for another couple of weeks and now with this Sen. calling for the FDA to stop sales..who knows? I may have just sank a couple thousand bucks in something I can’t recover.

I guess what I am saying is, don’t wait until it’s too late. If your going to get one, better start looking now. Don’t wait on me.

Plus, you can use them in all the no-smoking locations and give the bird to all the busybodies, and there's not a thing they can do about it. I don't even smoke and I might start doing this. ;-)

However, there have been no clinical studies to prove these products are effective at helping smokers quit, nor have any studies verified the safety of these products or their long-term health effects. The World Health Organization (WHO), in a release dated September 19, 2008, stated that, “WHO has no scientific evidence to confirm the product’s safety and efficacy.”

E-Cigarette Safety For Consumers And Bystanders Confirmed By Medical Study
"GAINESVILLE, FL, May 21, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- E-Cigarette Safety For Consumers And Bystanders Confirmed By Medical Study

One of the main arguments against e-cigarette products is that there is no scientific proof to support claims made by e-cigarette manufacturers and distributors that state the product is safe for its intended use and safe for bystanders. New research out of New Zealand would make that argument invalid.

The company, Health New Zealand, released its study (found here: http://www.healthnz.co.nz/coynews.htm) this past April at the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) conference. Their website states:

"Given that continued smoking of cigarettes carries a cumulative 1 in 2 death risk, the findings argue for:

1)less stringent regulation for very low-risk non-medicinal nicotine cigarette substitute products
2)the sale of this brand as a non-medicinal cigarette substitute, as its emissions have been tested"

The study suggested that because the operating temperature of an e-cigarette is only 5 to 10% of the temperature of a tobacco cigarette that they are, as a class of products, not likely to produce toxic substances in their mist that will affect bystanders.

Toxic emissions scores for the Ruyan brand of e-cigarettes tested compared to tobacco cigarette brands such as Marlboro revealed what most e-cigarette consumers already knew: tobacco cigarettes emit over 100 times more toxic chemicals than e-cigarettes do. From a list of more than 70 of toxic substances found in tobacco cigarette smoke, 0 of those toxicants were found in e-cigarette emissions.

Nicotine levels per puff were also analyzed: e-cigarette mist contains significantly less nicotine than tobacco cigarette smoke. Only 10% of the nicotine found in a normal puff from a tobacco cigarette was found in e-cigarette mist.

The conclusion that Health New Zealand came to was that e-cigarettes are cigarette substitutes and that if tobacco cigarette users switch to e-cigarettes that the health of both the smoker and the population will benefit. Although there is no way for any drug to be 100% safe, relative to tobacco cigarette emissions, e-cigarette emissions appear to be several hundred times safer. Health New Zealand also compared the e-cigarette to nicotine inhaler quitting aids, whose safety has never been questioned to the extent the safety of e-cigarettes has.

I’ve been looking at that forum. Seems like there are so many different options and opinions. It’s going to take a while to figure this out. I’d sure like to do it and get off these freakin’ cigarettes though.
