There was an intense manhunt going on, this was no casual driving by.

It’s dark, so what are spotlights for anyhow?

Police departments have been judicially rebuked in the past for their mishandling of the deaf.

Uh, yeah it was an “intense manhunt” for an armed serial rapist in that neighborhood. They were in that area patrolling because of that. What’s your point?

They saw someone who fit a general description of the guy. They didn’t have time or were close enough to count his dimples or nose hairs.

They said they identified themselves and told him to freeze, and that he didn’t-

If he had turned away, as they said, what would a spotlight do? Illuminate the back of his head?

They weren’t out to shoot him from the get-go. It seems a tragic series of miscommunications was the cause. I didn’t say the NYPD wasn’t culpable in any way. Diallo didn’t deserve his fate, and it wasn’t his fault if , in fact, he didn’t understand the command. But the fact is, if this guy had stopped and let himself to have been questioned he’d be alive today—unless someone from his ‘hood killed him.
