Back in 1961, it was all but unheard of for a white girl to go with a black man.

I've said that several times in other threads. I have also pointed out that any woman who did so in those days was a certifiable nut case, period. You just didn't go against society that much. She had to be crazy (at least a fringe personality), which makes one ponder how much of that got passed on to little Barry?

Good point. Usually the first thing that happened to a pregnant girl back then was to get married. If that wasn't an option, they were sent away to give birth, then gave the baby up.

Now I know Hawaii is much more liberal than Virginia is, because tolerating mixed couples is fairly a new phenomenon (in the last 20 years)here. I'm so sheltered that I never saw it until I was 25 years old, and trust me, shocked isn't the word for how I saw it.

It just wasn't “done” where I grew up in SE Texas either. I went out with a guy 3 times who had a Mexican grandmother when I was 16, and THAT was quite a leap for my daddy to make!! I wondered why he felt the need to clean his guns every time Jack picked me up. The poor guy would come in and see an arsenal! LOL
