The government of the State of Israel is totally secular. So in what sense is it a Jewish state?

The government is not secular in the American sense. It funds religious schools and there are even religious units in the military. Howeever, laws are not made on religious grounds.

Israel is a nation-state for Jews (ethnic grounds), but it is not a theocratic state.

Ethnically and prophetically, IMHO. Stay tuned for religiously.

I guess maybe in the sense that its secular military protects a whole lot of Jews from people who want them dead?

I dunno, maybe you should ask the Arab Muslims, who apparently have some issue with teh completely secular state of Israel.

Israel, also known as Palestine and as The Holy Land, is the homeland of the Jewish PEOPLE. Throughout history everyone knew that. Jews are a people, a family, a nation, as well as a religion.

Israel was founded as a state for the Jews, according to the UN.

It has a Chief Rabbi who most ignore.

Its political system is multiparty, both secular and non-secular.

All legal citizens can vote (no religious limitations like in Saudi Arabia, etc).

Schools are open to all.

There is freedom of religion for all.

Israel is a “homeland” for any Jew who wants to live there (other than criminals) if they leave or flee a foreign land (or are driven out as has been done in most of the Arab/Moslem world). This is called “the right of return”, but many other countries also have the “dual citizenship” clause in their laws (Ireland, England, which is why they are going down the toilet - Commonwealth immigrants), etc).
