Thanks for that link . . . .

Kinda sad that it got stuck out of the way.

It used to be a Navy base with the largest dry dock in the world. Then it became an Army facility. My mother worked there as a civilian most of her life.

It’s now the base for a cruise ship line. That’s what all the cars are doing parked there. The owners are on a cruise! But you can’t get past the entrance checkpoint unless you have a ticket. Thus, no one really sees that monument.

I’m sure there are the annual ceremonies and other events but that’s it. When the military gave up the base, it was supposed to be open to all the residents of Bayonne. So much for that.

The 9/11 Monument In New Jersey You Never Heard About

The Doug Ross Journal

Gee, our crack mainstream media must have accidentally dropped this story behind the vending machine.

Politics or Poppycock has a series of photos depicting a monument to the victims of 9/11 in Bayonne, New Jersey. He writes, “I’m stunned. I have never heard, seen or read anything about this. Isn’t it wonderful to live in a country where the media controls what we should know?”

none

The monument is a gift to the people of America from the citizens of Russia signifying the importance of the war against global terrorism.

none

Oops. That face may be one of the reasons our beloved mainstream media “forgot” to report the story.

none

The impressive teardrop monument is truly striking.

none

The victims of 9/11 are inscribed on a memorial wall.

Perhaps some enterprising reporter could let us know exactly what year this monument was installed.

They’ll just have to remember not to call the hijackers “terrorists” or “enemy combatants”, because President Obama doesn’t permit that.

This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for the perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author all 100% to feel the need to share an article.)

I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of the good stuff that is worthy of attention.

You are welcome to browse the list of truly exceptional articles I pinged to lately. Updated on March 19, 2009.  on  my page.
You are welcome in or out, just freepmail me (and note which PING list you are talking about).

Besides this one, I keep 2 separate PING lists for my favorite authors Victor Davis Hanson and Orson Scott Card.

here's an article from the New Yorker about it in 2007

Am I the only one who thinks the thing looks sexual?

Obama will be sending a selection of 25 Hallmark cards to help Russia deal with the memories of their terrorist troubles.

Unfortunately this was dedicated in 2006 during George W. Bush’s administration.

Any one have access to LexisNexis ?

Reminds me those things that hang on back of pickups around here.

Or a condom water balloon.

But it’s still impressive.

That's a cool site - thanks for the link. The picture must be at least a few months old though, the Intrepid's been back in Manhattan for a while now.

The article says the artist picked the location. Maybe he hoped that once it was installed, it would be impressive enough that people would want access. I'd love to see it in person, but

It's a beautiful monument, in the middle of nowhere. I'd like to see it, but it looks like you need to drive a bulldozer to get there.

Thanks for the ping! Amazing: a beautiful monument, a stirring gift from the Russians, and no one has ever heard of it, including me.

Let's see, I wonder what was going on in 2006, that our MSM would somehow "forget" to mention this? Wasn't that the year the Democrats announced "the war is lost"?

No point then in reminding folks why we fight, was there?

I own property in Bayonne and pass through quite frequently. Great little city - up and coming.

In front of City Hall, there is a gift from a Russian city - I forget which - which is a “sister” city to Bayonne. Very nice.

But I have never seen this monument, and looking at it I thought it was a joke. Its resemblance to female sexual genitalia has me still thinking you guys are all putting me on.
