I believe it was actually when fagen toured as "The New York Rock & Soul Review....and Walter they did about 4 dan songs....one of which was the Deacon. IT was an awesome show and, if you don't have the CD...I suugest you buy it (or steal it...whatever!!!)

I had been a HUGE dan fan for 20 years at the time and when I saw them doing Deacon....I was, literally, tearing up. It was one of my favorite concert moments ever....

I’ve got the Live at the Beacon album, lots of great stuff both from the Dan catalog and classic soul, but no Deacon Blues on that (might have been done at the show of course). It’s also one of those albums that’s a good reason to buy the CD no the MP3s, Fagen’s comments in the liner notes range from the insightful to the hilarious. Fagen and Becker are really high on the list of people I’d love to buy a beer, from everything I’ve seen in their interviews and such I think they’d be a lot of fun just to kick back and relax with.
