Anybody can have the power of a police officer on their PRIVATE PROPERTY, and a police officer DOES NOT have wide ranging powers like everyone thinks they have. An police officer may not enter/come on to your private property unless they were invited, or responding to an emergency call for help, or investigating a crime, or they ask permission.

Where as a private security officer powers only exist on the property that they are assigned to & during their hours of assigned duty.

I know this because I spent 12 years as an private security officer both armed and unarmed. I have worked a major airport in St. Louis Mo.[and did a lot of VIP security details as well], and secured gas stations, and construction sites, ect... I had to re certified every year for both armend & UN armend uses. I did spend more time on the range that was required, just to keep myself accurate under all types of shooting situations. Even though I had only had to draw my side arm 3 times in the line of duty, and NEVER had to fire a shot, during that time. I did use my nightstick & pepper mace a lot more though.

Yes it can be done and has been done.It depends on the state’s constitution and laws though. As for training a private security departments personnel would have to receive the same training as other Law enforcement officers. In Connecticut its mandated by law.So the Complaint by the Fraternal Order of Police is pointless. They are just trying to protect their Jobs. The funny thing is those municipal and state police officers will run to get a position in one of those private departments as soon as they retire.

Any Chicago Freepers here?

Mayor Richard M. Daley has already privatized many city functions. The Chicago Skyway has been leased to a Spanish conglomerate. Midway Airport is run by a Canadian company. The parking meters were sold to a firm run by Morgan Stanley, and as a result, the cost of parking in the city has skyrocketed.

Have any of your taxes gone down?

If Daley keeps privatizing public property, why would you need a city government?

Chicago is no longer the 2nd City to New York....It’s the 2nd City to Washington, DC! The Chicago police are spread so thin, because the corrupt Cops who protected the Chicago Machine had to move with the Chicago Machine to DC. Just not enough honest cops left! /s

I was looking for RoboCop imagery when I saw your post. It is unbelievable that this could even be considered.

That said, I think that most of the BHO agenda is thought of as unbelievable and is therefore not taken seriously by many.

The complaint is that the police are stretched too thin.

This is what happens when the culture turns to criminality as a normal form of behavior. They are after all following the example set by the political class in Chicago.

There is no police force in the world that can be effective if enough of the people just decide to live as criminals.
