The financial analyst is slick, smart, and she sniffed out the sorry state of the banks before almost anyone else. And now she’s trying to, yes, leverage all that.

It’s a brisk morning, and Meredith Whitney, dressed in a tightly fitted plum velvet jacket and towering red patent-leather heels, is giving me a tour of her new offices. “This will be where our research juniors are, this room is gonna be sales,” the former Oppenheimer & Co. analyst says, gesturing grandly across the 5,000 square feet of raw space above Lexington Avenue. She could almost be describing a full-fledged investment bank, which isn’t far from her aspirations.

She appears on Cavuto on Fox. And is married to WWE professional wrestler John “Bradshaw” Layfield. Formerly a managing director of Oppenheimer & Co. and now runs her own company.

She is a powerhouse and quite respected in the financial area.

I remember seeing Meredith Whitney when she was a regular guest on Neil Cavuto's Saturday morning business show on Fox News Channel. She's married to the wrestler/investor John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL), whom she met at Fox. And she's pretty hot, really.

I expect that she'll suffer the same fate as Elaine Garzarelli: make a great call and then never be able to follow it up with another one...

Oops...I see that the article mentions Garzarelli. Oh, well...

I have a theory about her, which is that she is a media phenomenon more than anything else. The media made her a cause celebre to show that women can be good stock analysts, too. A simple case of feminism.

However, I'm quite sure that she knows a lot more about it than me.

I wondered what had happened to her? I hadn’t seen her for awhile on Cavuto on Saturday mornings. She used to be almost a weekly regular.

She was quite correct calling the top and the downside,

but early Feb. 2009 she said the only investment she saw was further shorting of already beaten down financials. Every possible trade she suggested has been a massive loser since Feb.

So I tend to agree she over leveraged herself, the steady paychecks at Oppenheimer will soon be a sorely missed warm memory for her if she doesn’t find a new call that hits the mark.
