What else could consistently punch body armor vests?

5.56x41 or 7.62x39 FMJ. No one is saying it was a handgun. In fact one witness reports an "assault type" rifle.

I should have inserted “pistol”, I know the rifles can, but it’s surprising that someone would have something that bulky handy in the car (uless they were paying rivals a visit at the time and were interuppted).
