The books still are separate...they continue to be separate books.

The books of the New Testament were considered separate when they were written.

The books all had to have apostolic weight or they wouldn’t have been considered holy scripture. Matthew and John were apostles. Luke (and Acts), compiled by Paul’s companion, has Paul’s weight behind it. Mark, an early member of the church and early companion of Paul, has multiple apostolic weight behind his book.

The letters are all identified by their apostolic authors with the exception of Hebrews. James and Jude were brothers of Jesus.

There were several FALSE “books” which claimed apostolic authority.
The Catholic Church excluded those Books.
There were also several Books with VERY sound doctrine, in wide circulation, which were NOT included in the official Bible due to Catholic Church Council decisions.
The Catholic Church also preserved ALL of the Scriptures.

NO translation would be possible, if not for the hard work of the Catholic Church.
