I actually wish that the POTUS would scrub all such wastes of time off his schedule. No matter who the POTUS is, for at least four years he is, or should be, busy beyond belief.

The VP used to be assigned to stuff like that, and attending funerals of foreign leaders. But the VP has himself become too valuable to waste on foolishness like this.

By dispatching with that crapola, it would free up another hour a day for serious work.

For decades, most of these "inside" events were closed.."off the record"..and everyone let their hair down. Then, people started leaving their cell phones on, or emailng the jokes, and C-span started covering them live, and they became carefuly staged and scripted events..IOW..essentially worthless.

For me, the best I ever saw was when Laura Bush took over for W at the WH press dinner..who knew she had perfect comedic timing??..
