Someone please explain to me how...

This case is a perfect example of the nefarious intrusion of Political Correctness. The goal of PC is rob people of the ability to think critically.

Words are symbols for concepts. Humans logically manipulate these symbols with syntax and grammar (i.e., language) to be able to describe reality and predict outcomes of proposed actions.

During the last century, the left came to the realization that the ordinary citizen would never adopt the tenants of socialism if presented with these in an “unvarnished and truthful” manner. Consequently, they schemed to obscure these tenants with meaningless terms.

Of course, the Left knew the answer to the old question about “how to eat an elephant…” “one bite at a time.” Therefore, they incrementally began to seize control of the language. At first, they masqueraded their language seizure as avoiding hurting someone’s feelings: “physically challenged” instead of “handicapped,” “hearing impaired” instead of “deaf,” etc. After all, who can complain about being “kind?”

Incrementally the language seizure and obfuscation continued with “gay” for “queer” and “choice” for “abortion,” etc. Substituting man-caused-disaster for terrorism is just another incremental step in the attempt to control people’s thought processes.

By destroying precise meanings and referents of the symbols of thinking (words) the left can defeat the ordinary citizen’s ability to accurately discern the true reality of socialism. Furthermore, when that occurs, the ability to reasonably predict socialism’s disastrous and inevitable outcomes with logic (i.e., mentally manipulating symbols) is impaired as well. Such a situation is just another step in the left’s planned march to totalitarian Marxist domination.
