You can find the full roll call vote on HR 1586, tax cheat Charlie Rangel’s ass-covering, after-the-fact AIG bonus tax here. I have broken out the 85 Republicans (led by GOP Minority Whip Eric Cantor) who voted with Rangel and the Democrat demagogues.

Hmm...?
John Culberson (TX) was "NV" on this one.
Anyone know why?

I appreciate the input.

In the end, the courts may trash it anyway... but.. if a lesson is learned.. good.

There’s a good list to start with on who needs to be voted out of office. If they want to toss out the constitution they need to be tossed out themselves.

I thought this kind of bill was unconstitutional.

Sent this letter to my idiot. Thats 2 in 2 days. Its on. I gave him the benefit of the doubt as a newbie on the GIVE act. He is toast.

Congressman Rooney,

I can honestly say I had hoped that you were not going to be another RINO. I now know that I wasted another vote. In the last 2 days, you have voted to enforce mandatory volunteerism, an oxymoron especially to a conservative like myself. I have brought my children up to give back to their communities. Now government is going to do that for me? Mandatory Volunteering is servitude, conscription, serfdom, and it is a socialist tenet. If it were attached to those who only take, like welfare receipents for life, or section 8 receipients as a way to give back some of what they take, so be it.

The scarier issue for me here is you vote to raise taxes on big bonus earners. You have attached your name to a bill that will be found unconstitutional. Maybe you should try reading the constitution, the bill of rights, the declaration of independence. When in the course of human events it becomes necessary.....It is becoming necessary. I had hoped you were going to prove to be a champion of America. It seems as though in your short time in office, you are helping to tear down a country that you claim to love.

I had hoped we would have an ally in the congress. A voice. It is apparent that our representation in Florida is non existent, and we are assisting the current congress and administration on their extremely rapid march toward socialism.

May your children forgive you, I know I will not.

I think many of them voted that way to show they are in agreement with teaching these weasels a lesson. This is government-taxpayer (our) money they are squandering on failure.

This will likely amount to little more than symbolism anyway. I think the courts will overturn it because it singles out one specific group to be punished via taxation. I do not think that will hold in the courts.

I’d prefer to see all the members of the RMSP taken out first, that would cull quite a few moderates.

I understand a lot of folks are beyond upset and disappointed with the list here but unless you’re an AIG bonus recipient or with any other entity that receives bonuses from bail-out money, I wouldn’t go whole hog to dump all of them.

I just sent this letter to my congressman Republican Dave Reichert, 8th district, Washington.

How disappointed I am to find out that you Congressman Reichert has voted along with most Democrats and 85 House Republicans supporting Rangels 90 percent bonus tax. . As much as we all hate to see bailed out company executives get bonus checks paid for by tax payers dollars, this punitive 90% tax is unconstitutional. But why should I expect these same Congressmen to have ever read the Constitution when they don’t even read bills they vote on. You a man with a law background should out of all of them know better. The rule of law must stand above this, ‘if it makes you feel good do it’, vote today in congress. You have lost my support and vote forever because of this knee-jerk reaction and illegal vote. I will be supporting someone else to represent me next election.

Basically it was to teach the private companies a lesson about coming to the federal government looking for a handout. In other words if they get their hand slapped they may not come back while hopefully others will stay away.

Admitting that they are punishing these guys by confiscatory taxes? Oh to be one of the AIG employee lawyers. Such a slam dunk case because congressmen take such glee in admitting that this was a bill punishing individuals without due process.

Any Republican that would approve a 90 percent tax on anything, and I mean anything - I do not care what the reason is - should get the boot from the party.

Stearns is mine, he is usually way conservative.

Rehberg is mine, and he's oftentimes very conservative in his voting pattern.

In my view, the country is pretty much a lost cause at this point. Too many of our leaders are willing to discard the foundation of the nation either intentionally or through ignorance. And far too many of the electorate are idiots and/or willfully and negligently ignorant. I can agree that there are some that are even more deserving to lose their jobs than this list, but as I see it, this group has violated the Constitution and in doing so violated their oaths of office and really need to resign or be thrown out. My concern is the discarding of the Constitution, not particularly the bonus money.

Agreed. Completely.

This will eventually make it to the Supremes. They’ll just laugh as they rule against it. It’s a no-brainer even for the Libs on the Court.

Just a populist tantrum.
