Some Catholics Disappointed in Obama

He garnered the majority of Catholic votes in the 2008 election, but a number of Catholic groups now say President Obama is showing a complete lack of regard for their beliefs. They count his decisions to lift restrictions on abortion and stem cell research among the most offensive. "As far as the Catholic church goes, there's no bigger priority for Catholics than human dignity and human life," said Cathy Ruse, senior fellow at the Family Research Council said. "And the Obama administration has just been an assault on those values again and again in just two months."

That is funding from the CCHD, not the Catholic Church.

The CCHD was established by the NCCB, National Catholic Conference of Bishops. That’s what it said on the website I believe. Isn’t that the Catholic Church?

Well I know about 3 dozen Catholics and Jews and they are ALL hardcore democrats. I don’t call them friends as they are not. I am sure there are some Catholics and Jews who are NOT moonbats but many here seem to blow off the statistics that prove time and again, that Catholics and Jews are major democratic supporters AS A GROUP!

Yes it is, but many here will accuse you of bigotry only for supplying facts.

I’m also a practicing Catholic and I think the leadership around here (Kansas City area) was very clear about their preference in the last election (without actually crossing the line and endorsing specific candidates). In his homily each Sunday, our parish priest often talked about the moral obligations of Catholics with regard to protecting life and pro-life versus pro-choice candidates. It was fun to watch some of the people in church shift around in the pews or stare at their hands. Their discomfort with the subject (and likely choice in the election) seemed pretty clear to me. Our archdiocese newspaper (The Leaven) also featured a rather lengthy discussion of the subject. Around here, the practicing Catholics who voted for Obama must have chosen to ignore the clear moral direction provided by the church leadership.

Lemme get this straight. Millions of Catholics give this preposterous charlatan and full-term abortionist their vote, and you are angry with me?

Ego me absolvo.
Mea culpa
Mea culpa
Mea minima culpa.

It is probably very upsetting to a Catholic to find out that fellow Catholics in the Church supported a creep like Obama, so I can see my way to cutting them some slack.

At least they didn’t vote for the guy!

You should do a better job of picking and choosing who you associate with. However, out of ~70 million Catholics in the United States you know ~36 and use that as the basis to write "as a group Catholics are the stupidest voters in the US."

It is intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that your IQ is quite a bit below room temperature.

There are some FReepers who won’t believe it even if the Pope announced it from Rome.

I was amazed and disheartened at my friends who are born-again believers and still voted for this charlatan. I hope they’re happy with their retirements!

Do you mean the National Catholic Conference of Bishops isn’t the American Catholic Church?

Who are they then? I am not a Catholic so I don’t know how it works.

I must say that I know some other parishioners at my Church that are definitely Dumbocrats. They seem to fall for the “social justice” angle. Of course relinquishing your charitable decisions to the government leaves you bereft of having made a moral decision at all, but since when do libs of any creed really think that deeply? My pastor in an unabashed traditionalist. He reminded us before the elections that voting for politicians who support abortion is contrary to our faith. Sadly, the pews have been a little less populated over his tenure. Some people can’t handle the truth. I wish that Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, etc. would get the excommunication they deserve. I would love to know what the Pope said to Pelosi, but it probably didn’t have much effect on her Botox poisoned mind.

McCain was an ass. He barely raised this issue, and he completely discredited himself with Evangelicals by treating them with confusion and disrespect. The same with Catholics. He should have attacked Obama as an extreme baby killer, who three times voted to let children die who are born alive; but he refused to do it.

Just add this issue to the list of topics left unaddressed by this superannuated dingbat. One show of integrity would have won this election for McCain. He gave up a month out. Much worse than Dole's campaign. Much worse even than George I's miserable effort in '92.

But the addlepated one is still asking me for money! A guy once brave enough to fly an A-4 over North Vietnam just didn't have the cojones to stand up and fight Obama. I have a bad case of cognitive dissonance over this ....

Yep - sour grapes after the fact don’t hold much water IMHO.
