Some one should ask him if he will make sure that everyone in his administration will be paying this greater tax burden. Several of them haven’t in the past...

Hey "O" just because the rich (your term) can "afford" more, higher taxes does NOT make it right.

And bleeding heart dibs called President Bush "king George."

America... was nice knowing you... you had one hell of a run... maybe in a little less than 4 years "O" will be made to take early retirement.

hmmm... let’s see.

the top 5% of earners are about 2.5% of the population... or about 7m people. if you jacked up their taxes to grab an additional $10,000 per taxpayer.. that’d only be an additional $70b (what’s that supposed to pay? how high are these taxes going to go??)

instead, if you tax EVERY American, regardless of their income level, an additional 5%... that would be about an extra $2,000 per person on average for all 140m tax payers...

which would result in an additional $280 billion per year

(don’t worry, that evil rich guy making $10m/yr would pay an extra $500k... and the guy making $25k/yr would pay an extra $1250/yr)

I hope everyone that gets hit with the added tax fires 10 employees for every $1000 in additional taxes!

They can also afford to relocate. And they can take their businesses with them. Easily.

Ah yes... "The rich" can afford it. That leads to thinking like:

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need."

Where have we heard that before my friends? That's right, that fun-loving guy Karl Marx. Is there anyone on the planet that doesn't think Obama is a socialist? Obama is a serious threat to America as a free society, he is bent on turning us into a socialist state.

Mr. Obama portrayed himself as someone who understands hard work

This is laughable. As far as I can tell, he's never worked a day in his life.

My fear is that Obama's targeting the rich will do to the entire country what California's "Millionaire Tax" did to that state.

That tax was sold as only affecting those who made over a million/year, and it resulted in thousands of its wealthy packing up and leaving the state. Since they no longer live in California, they not only pay no Millionaire Tax, they pay no California tax at all, and the state lost some of its best people to boot. Now a once proud state that was an economic powerhouse on its own is becoming an economic basket case.

If we are to become prosperous, we need to attract wealth and capital, not tax them away.

The president added he will pay higher taxes himself as a result

If I were guaranteed a pension of $191,300.00 per year (adjusted for inflation) until I am 80, I wouldn't give a r@t's ass about higher taxes either.

A President's pension currently is $191,300.00 per year, until he is 80 years old.

Obama doesn't have to save a single dollar for his retirement. The rest of us do.

Yes, I believe the “rich” can afford to pay higher taxes THIS year. And, instead of investing in the economy, their dollars will go to the feds.

Next year is a different story. Obama is slowly choking the golden goose, who will lay fewer eggs next year. Since the “rich” have been paying taxes instead of investing in growing the economy, the pie will start to shrink. We will all suffer.

As the philosopher said, “I never got a job from a poor man.” Basic understanding of economics is missing from the majority of the voters.

I go onto Democratic Underground on a very regular basis because I like seeing what they say. And I like stirring the pudding.
The subject was taxes and I was coming on the against side, saying that high taxes will cause people that own businesses will not want to expand their businesses and hire as much (I was laid off from my job in November, so this subject is very close to my heart).
Anyway, some guy actually said that if you move because of high taxes, you are an asshole.
I never attacked anyone on a personal level (though I so wanted to), but I just said that it was in everyone’s best interest for the government to not spend as much and to keep taxes and waste as low as possible. I tried to paint it as an idea that they should be able to get behind (keep waste low and you can help more people). We had a pretty fiery discussion going for a while, then it died. I love doing that kind of stuff.

"These folks can afford it. They were rich back in the '90s"

A telling comment. Many of them were not "rich back in the '90s" - this country still has the highest income mobility of any country, something that Marxists like Obama like to ignore.

And of course it's much better for rich people to give their money to government to waste than to invest their money to create more and better jobs.

And by taxing the rich B.O. can continue to push class warfare.

This idiot won’t be happy until he destroys every small business in the country and then they’ll wonder why we’re having a chronic unemployment problem involving most of the MIDDLE class.

That’s like saying “Because you are rich, you need to pay four times the price of the car you want.” What happens when the rich run out of money? Who will he go after next? Wanta guess?
