Sorry if I go against the grain here...but contract law should be upheld! Our problem is the idiot Congressmen and Senators that made these laws! Either we uphold the law and try to do better or go with popular opinion... Hey, that is the way of fascists. We do always obey the law, even if we disagree - we try to change it! Don’t get carried away by populist rhetoric...
If I’m not mistaken, I believe ‘Code Pink’ also is home based in the SF Bay Area. Just like Ms. Pelosi - The Wicked Witch of the Barbary Coast...
Good old Code Pinko.
Thats kinda what I thought!
I totally agree with you
I understood that... We agree along with most here...
if i were one of the guys with the bonus, i’d be like..
“umm, no.”
seriously... i’m supposed to care about $120m? what about the $8-9 TRILLION the feds are passing out to foreigners, druggies, slackers, and deadbeats?
the whole AIG thing is trying to be a distraction away from the fact that the dems set this whole mess in motion... and have stolen FAR more directly from taxpayers
and what’s with the code pink chicks always being hags?
Did any Repubs get question Liddy? Here’s what my line of questioning would be:
Mr. Liddy, does AIG intend to continue as a for profit corporation and become profitable again? A: Yes. Does AIG operate in a competitive business climate? A: Yes. Does AIG have a current Business Plan? A: Yes. In your business plan, are there any incentive compensation measures that are intended to reward and retain the top employees and executives in the industry? A: (Presumably,) Yes. Based on your expertise and experience in your industry, do you believe the top performing employees would continue to stay with AIG if incentive bonuses were eliminated due to the fact that AIG is now “owned” by the US government? A: No. Do you really think your employees are willing to work for less pay than they could expect to receive at a similar firm, simply because taxpayer dollars are involved? A: No.
So, Mr. Liddy, it seems you are saying such incentives are an essential and perfectly reasonable component of successfully doing business in this industry, even though tax payer money is in play. Am I correct? A: Yes.
Well, then I would submit that if such incentives are required and reasonable for industry competitiveness going forward, how then can we sit here and grandstand against legal and contractual bonuses that have already been paid?
I understand that the public is up in arms about this, but they apparently have very little understanding how companies have to compete for employees at this level.
Starting to understand “What about the $8-9 TRILLION the feds are passing out to foreigners, druggies, slackers, and deadbeats?”
Well, congratulations on just starting to understand the problem (several countries are involved). Seems that we are trying to support foreign governments with their problems - but hey, this is a universal problem (ie. global, don’t ya know). Nothing like helping out the French with their problems (I do like there wine though - cheese is okay also)...heh. Does that mean that we will get a discount on their nice red wines?
Oh well, our problems are their problems...so why not give them some money also...
Just when will this stop!
Don’t pictures like this make you really wonder about those guys who hang around Code Pink?
“Im not buying he is in this for $1, short term maybe.”
Oh, no. He’s banking influence points for later. He’ll get bonuses that’ll put AIG to shame.
Thanks, I think I’ll take your advice.
