Will the new branch of the FDA inspect and oversee their personal garden too?

-- National Park Service staff won't do the sowing and planting. The White House residence staff will handle that. --

Commendable self-sufficiency, relying on the house staff. And will the house staff undertake cultivation, pest remediation, harvesting and preservation activities as well?

If he, Michelle, or the kids aren't spending substantial time in the garden for personal enjoyment, then it's a show - because from a financial standpoint, it's wasteful of tax money. Cheaper to buy the food than pay the staff to maintain a show garden.

Thanks to Rep. Rosa DeLauro (wife of Monsanto advocate and researcher, Stanley Greenburg), it might be illegal to garden in the near future.

http://fdsys.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-111hr875IH/pdf/BILLS-111hr875IH.pdf
"(14) FOOD PRODUCTION FACILITY.—The term ‘‘food production facility’’ means any farm, ranch, orchard, vineyard, aquaculture facility, or confined animal-feeding operation."

Apparently relevant text from earlier in the document:

(2) require each food production facility to have a written food safety plan that describes the likely hazards and preventive controls implemented to address those hazards;
(3) include, with respect to growing, harvesting, sorting, and storage operations, minimum standards related to fertilizer use, nutrients, hygiene, packaging, temperature controls, animal encroachment, and water;
(4) include, with respect to animals raised for food, minimum standards related to the animal’s health, feed, and environment which bear on the safety of food for human consumption;
(5) provide a reasonable period of time for compliance, taking into account the needs of small businesses for additional time to comply;
(6) provide for coordination of education and enforcement activities by State and local officials, as designated by the Governors of the respective States; and
(7) include a description of the variance process under subsection (d) and the types of permissible variances which the Administrator may grant under such process.

the first family will be planting a vegetable garden right on the White House grounds.

Bull.

The STAFF will be given hoes, spades, and seed packets and the STAFF will plant a vegetable garden.

Wow, what a gesture....to order your STAFF to do something 'noble' and 'self-sufficient'.

Does anyone but me find this ridiculous pandering nauseating?

I wish my father was alive to lay out the garden for them,
it would be butter beans as far as the eye could see.
He came from a farm family.

Well, I’m sure it would not be something so obvious as watermelons, maybe we’re lookin’ at Collard greens on a bed of Kudsu. (Geez, I can’t remember the name of those disgusting slimy little green pickle like things from the South, that are totally pukeable!)

Here you go Michelle, a link to planting and tending a Witch’s garden:

http://www.pier55.com/Bizzare-Unusual/Wiccan-Garden.shtml

“The Wiccan garden is a wonderful place to express your Wiccan ethics and surround yourself with the herbs and other plants that can be used in The Craft. There are many examples of Wiccan gardens ranging from perfectly ordinary “kitchen gardens” to more elaborate gardens that might contain altars, statues and other objects of significance to a Wicca.”

Perhaps next, a chicken coop and a pig sty. Oh wait, the White (or “Black”) House is already been turned into those.

Let's see, what else can the lovely Obammys do to degrade and turn the White House into a laughing stock and trailer park trash heap?

How about an auto repair garage and used car lot on the back lawn? How about a smokey BBQ drive through? A barber shop or hair dressing salon when the “bros ‘n ho’s” could hang out.

To paraphrase the lovely Michelle Obammy, for the first time in my life I'm ashamed to be an American.
