Outside of high capacity magazines “assault” weapons are no more dangerous that “sporting” weapons. I also wonder if the AG has thought that weapons may be coming up through Central America. Doesn’t he think FARC and the Colombian Drug Cartels may be in the arms business?

You had better do so more reading. The charge is that Mexican drug cartels are getting full auto weapons, rocket launchers etc. through gun dealers in the states. This is just plain BS. They are using that as a scare tactic to stampede the ignorant masses who know nothing about firearms or the laws already in place in the USA.

This has nothing to do with reality, only another "crisis" that needs governmental interference to solve, in their opinion.

The fact is Mexico's problems are not ours. Gun stores cannot sell full auto weapons except to proper permit holders, also they can't get their hands on an amount sufficient to arm large numbers of drug runners. Neither can they obtain or sell RPGs, handgrenades, etc. Even if they could, it is Mexico's problem not ours.

Federal, State, and city gun bans.
Gun control laws like gun registration, background checks, CCW laws, limits on how many handguns a person could purchase a year, or month.
