Palin defends natural-gas pipeline strategy

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, March 18 (Reuters) Amid economic jitters and worries about diminished investor interest in a massive North Slope natural gas pipeline, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Wednesday defended her efforts to secure the mega-project that has been pursued for decades and that has been a centerpiece of her political career.

Palin said her administration's competitive-bidding process, under a law called the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act, or AGIA, has produced concrete results.

"There had been no progress in the decades of talks and dreams and backroom deals and everything else in terms of hoping for some kind of natural gas pipeline to be built to commercialize Alaska's rich resources until AGIA came along," the Republican governor said at a news conference held in the state capitol in Juneau.

"I don't think anybody can argue that, because today after this competitive process called AGIA, we have two projects progressing, plus in-state projects, and that's good news for Alaska."

The Alaska project also fits with President Obama's goals for reducing carbon emissions, she added.

"Our project lends itself to his agenda there. So I say, politically, you know, let this be one of President Obama's wins, let it be his baby, his idea, whatever it takes to allow that administration to know the import of this project," she said.

“The Alaska project also fits with President Obama’s goals for reducing carbon emissions, she added.”

but Obama’s goal isn’t to reduce emissions. If he wanted to reduce emissions he’d be building nuclear plants all over the place. Obama’s goal is to reduce our entire economy.

Obama probably won’t settle for getting credit for it. He’ll find a way to block it. Palin won’t find our post-partisan president to be very easy to work with. She should make friends with Harper.

It seems obvious to me now that some Alaska Democrats have volunteered for a kamikaze mission to take out Gov. Palin and sabotage her Presidential aspirations, even if they damage Alaska’s best interests in doing so. In other words, sacrificing Alaska’s agenda for partisan national political advantage, something of which they are fond of accusing Sarah of doing. Typical Dem projection. She needs to call these pipsqueaks out and make them suffer the wrath of Alaska’s voters, who still support Gov. Palin and AGIA by large majorities.

Our natural gas is pretty cheap, I am thinking about converting my truck to run on CNG, get totally off the dinofuel, refill at home.

The only problem I see is the thousands of people that will rush up here to Alaska thinking high pay jobs will appear like when the Trans Alaska Pipeline was built.

Unfortunately, some of this is coming from Alaskan Republicans, who were part of the ‘Old Regime’ and are in the tank for Big Oil.

Agreed, but their agenda is confined to keeping their own snouts in the trough. They are not doing it at the behest of an outside political party and in support of an ideology that is alien to most Alaskans.

I just love her can-do attitude. She is willing to let 0 get all the credit if it benefits Alaska. Reminds me of Dagney Taggert. We really need this woman to run the country and help pick up the pieces in 2012.

Reagan:

When Ronald Reagan was President, he had a sign on his desk that said, “There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he doesn’t mind who gets the credit.”

Palin:

Dagney Palin.

Sarah will be our 45th President.

Our job will be to clear the decks for her. Dodd, Frank, Geithner are just the beginning.
